Membership Magic Beyond

No it puts the points from wherever they have available points. Currently I have Grand Cal points but I have had others such as AKL and OKW as well.

It does show up as a contract but OTUP are to be used at 7 months so there is no 11 month booking even though that is where the points are from.

I would love to have used my VGC OTUP at 11 months instead of hoping to switch from VDH on a waitlist…..
Do you have two or more membership numbers?
What they weren’t confident in is if someone can buy two MMB and therefore buy two sets of the 24 OTUP.
How do they do it now (before MMB)?

For those with 2 or more different UY (membership #s) who are routine users of OTU points, are you able to purchase 24 OTU points per membership??

Finally, use of OTUPs are or aren’t restricted to DVC-Y memberships right now?

Only if we have a very scientific disboards poll lol. I’m in the camp that says it a much larger group that values this than you realize.

The 5 day ticket or the whole MMB package?

If you’re referring to the 5 day ticket, then we will respectfully agree to disagree.

No all of our contracts are in the same use year.

Yes if you have multiple use years you can purchase up to 24 OTUP per use year.

OTUP are not restricted both resale or direct owners can purchase.

To get the discount with MMB you will have to have qualified for membership extras on that use year.

If you purchase MMB and have a June use year with membership extras (blue card) and a December use year (resale) then you could purchase 24 OTUP in June for $240 and 24 OTUP for December at $480 based on the $20 a point current price

I’m referring to the MMB $99 add on

Then we don’t necessarily disagree. I can see the entire add-on being “worth it” to a significant number of people, including anybody who wants Memory Maker and anybody who uses OTUP.

My discussion was that a 1-10% discount that must be exactly 5 weekdays, it’s not a very significant ticket promotion.

I can confirm there are people who do that during high season. I’m one 🤣
I do that if I actually go to the parks. I never go on weekends, even low season - if there is still one. My concern is that the trips I actually go into the parks are when we bring extended family and they want to go into parks. I couldn’t get the weekday discount for them. Although anymore they rarely want to spend the $$ for 5 days in the parks.

So the best practice is to make a reservation at 7m out from your UY at any resort that has a room for 24 points, cancel the reservation, and then use however you see best. (Including swapping out with any other reservation made at 7m)?

You can do that if you want to buy them and I can see someone who is borrowing mode, that this is a way to get points for those 7 months booking and be able to bank.

Now, obviously this is what DVD is hoping….people find a way to make buying OTU points make sense since they will be cheaper..

I even am running the numbers to see if I should do it to replace 24 of the ones I trade for my AP…it actually turns the value I am getting for those points to close to $18/point! Lol

Thank you for the answers.

Based on this, it will be a nice little incentive to "blue-card" my final resale membership! At least I can tell the DW that. That's my story and I'm sticking with it! Hahaha!

I wonder if DVC had that as part of its calculations when coming up with MMB?

I’m not sure if I would be buying 150 direct points to take advantage of this. It might be cheaper to add on a resale contract. Or just buy 25 direct points that way you could combine with your existing points and use the 11 month advantage.

They might have some direct points already, but not the full 150.

But, in general I agree with the sentiment.

It also shows the trickiness of multiple UYs.

Current rules don’t allow you to buy if you have your own points in the current use year.

Sorry, I cannot find the rule that says that you must have no point in your UY left.
It starts saying "you may find yourself in need of just few extra Vacation Points in order to book that perfect dream vacation", but Sandy's scenario (I want to keep the points for another reservation at 11 months that is not bookable yet but I want to book something else at 7 months), falls in that definition.
Unless I'm missing something else?

It is also possible that both things are true. Maybe the official rule is that you must have zero points remaining, but since there is an easy way around it (which involves more work for the CM), CM have been told to let people buy them anyway. And maybe not every CM knows that, so there might be some who apply the rule.
