Meijer grocers..anyone notice a lot of overcharging/incorrect pricing?

I kept my receipts for the last 5 months from there, I started to keep them when I noticed I was having to catch an error everytime I was checking out. I would put a * on the receipts that I caught errors on either during check out or after...82% were marked with a *! I have decided to give up on Meijer unless it is a really good deal, I am just having trouble supporting a retail establishment that is this problematic. I also totalled ( as best I could) items that I remembered being overcharged or double charged for...it was just under $85 total...maybe not much to some, but that's a weeks worth of food at our house. I sent a letter to corporate informing them of our stores location and my disappointment. Just wondering if we have a loser store or if anyone else has noticed this? I have to catch errors at other stores too, but Meijer has been in error way too often to not take notice of. I noticed pricing error when doing self check out too, so it is not a clerk I am blaming ( except for double charging, sliding an item more than once, when multiplying items hitting X7 when should be 6 etc) it is the company in general.

Funny you posted this. I went there grocery shopping last week and caught 5 errors. I added it up and it amounted to over $20 that I would have been over charged if I had not paid close attention and caught them. Some of the items where not advertised, but they had a sign up on the shelf. When I questioned the manager she was like "thanks, I'll walk the store".:headache: Normally I catch 1 error per shopping trip, but 5.:scared1::mad:

I get an overcharge every now and then. Wal mart is by far the worst for overcharging around here.

My problem with Meijer is in stock position, they never have ad items in stock. I have more rainchecks then actual food items in my pantry right now.

I love the new Kroger Marketplace in Walton, KY, but it is 45 miles away. They are building 2 in Lexington to open in April. I think my business will go there once they are open.

ALWAYS check your receipt BEFORE you leave the store. Meijer is terrible at having things ring up wrong. Every week I must have something adjusted. I know sometimes I really don't feel like going to the customer service counter to get a dollar back, but as you proved, it all adds up after a while.

I occasionally have issues at Meijer. If I do it's because they left the last weeks sale price up by accident. They are good about fixing those things asap and either fixing the price at the register or refunding the overage at CS.

I almost never have issues at Kroger because of their scan right policy. They take it more seriously than anyone else.

Walmart always has price issues. Very annoying as you have to watch carefully.

Yeah, Meijer has always been terrible about that. I try to catch everything as I check out. I always stop for a minute and sit on the bench and double check my receipt before I leave.

oh yeah, I always check, and I go to the counter...I sohuld clarify that I CAUGHT the $80+ in errors and did get the $ back ( each trip) but if I hadn't , Meijer would have that $. Sad that it is apparently an overall issue with them.

I haven't had a single problem with Meijer ringing up stuff wrong since I started shoping there last fall. They are frequently out of stock, or barely have anything left (I've taken the last item off the shelf many times!) but what I do buy does ring up correctly.

Jewel, on the other hand, is terrible about prices. But if you catch it, you get the item free! I got a half galon of organic milk for free just two weeks ago.

Maybe it's the individual stores, and how good the management is.

Ky...the Kroger on Richmond road is half done right now. It is going to be awesome, if I can steer away from all the awesome stuff in the deli area! You are Georgetown girl? I'm a Cynthiana girl!!

:) Stop on by! :wave2: Seriously, I guess I could be getting lucky, but I always check my Meijers receipt carefully and have only found one error, the cashier didn't ring a coupon (I think it got stuck to the back of another one) but other than that, no double rings or incorrect prices. They do have stock issues on their sale items, but I find if I go early enough on Saturday morning, I usually can get what I came in for. I saved over 50% there this past weekend between sales and coupons so for me, it's worth the effort! I paid $34 for $74 worth of groceries.

I'm such a geek, I've started to "write" my grocery list in Excel. I read the sales ads, circle what I want, then find the coupons for each item in my coupon folder. Next, I put the items I want for each store in one column, the next is the quantity I need, then the sale price in the ad, then the number of coupons for that item and their amount, and finally any bonus offers for that item (buy 10 get the 11th free, buy X of Nestle brands get a coupon for $Y off your next purchase, stuff like that). This way I know exactly what I need to buy to get the best deal, and I can easily check the receipts for incorrect rings, missed coupons, and to make sure I get all bonus offers.

The Meijer by me is pretty accurate. If I catch an error, the cashier will always take my word for it and adjust the price without having to call someone and check.

They are pretty good at substituting items if they are out. A few months ago, they had some frozen ravioli on sale but they were out. There was a guy in the area so I asked if they had any in the back. He said that he'd go and check. While I was waiting, a manager walked by. I was just standing there so she asked if she could help me. I told her that I was waiting to see if they had anymore in the back. She offered to substitute the huge bag of ravioli for the same price as the small bags. I told her that really wasn't necessary that I could wait or get a rain check. She went on about how it wasn't a problem and if the cashier gave me a hard time to have them page her. I took one bag and she said "No take as many as you like for that price." Good thing that my freezer in the basement was empty. The cashier didn't even bat an eye when I told her that they were substituting them.

Besides Aldi, the only other grocery store on our side of town is Jewel (across the street) but their prices are double those of Meijer.

The one in Bolingbrook or Plainfield may be closer! :rotfl:

I've only been to Rt59 a few times and I can't find anything! I hate that each store is set up completely different. I can never just run in and out if I'm not at my store.

WOW! I am so glad to know that other people have the same issues with Meijer that I do! I have shopped there one time in the past 6 months for the simple reason of THEY ARE ALWAYS OUT of sale items!! Pricing yes, they have major issues there but nothing is more frustrating than going there for specific items and them not having it. One would think they would get a hint :confused3

We shop at Meijer all the time. I usually go on Sunday morning after the new sales come out and always go over my receipt. Once in a while I'll catch something and they are always good about correcting it.

I TRY to watch as the cashier scans things though ... easier to get things fixed on the spot.

Do agree with them running out of sale items ... that's one of the reasons I go on Sunday morning, especially for a really good sale because I am almost always assured that the item is available. By the end of the day of Sunday is another story.

.

Ours sales changed a few months ago to starting on Thursday to coincide with most of the other major grocery stores around here. I hate going on Sundays because it's always so crowded.

I shop almost exclusively @ Meijer, and since I do self scan am very aware of the pricing --- the only "error" I caught recently was a frying pan that wasn't marked on the shelf (but there was the same thing, but smaller - I was guessing at the price) and the one I was getting rang up @ $3.71. SCORE!

The WalMart closest to me is the big culprit locally --- terrible stock issues, TERRIBLE about having one stock with the wrong label, so you have to eyeball EVERYTHING (UPC codes, the whole works) --- and their cashiers care the least of anyone on earth. The funny thing is there is another WalMart south of town that offers a COMPLETELY different shopping experience - the store is always clean, the people who work their are friendly and know things. Bizarre.

The best thing about Meijer are the store coupons that print out. I just used a few last night and saved $17 on things I was buying because I always buy them, not because I had a coupon! I've also gotten MasterCard coupons at the register --- buy a $25 gift card for $10... gotten that coupon TWICE. So, I'm a huge Meijer fan.

I shop at the one in Oswego - it's not too far from you either (It's a small world after all...).

I love our Meijer. Only once in a while have I saw things ring up wrong and I always watch as best I can.

The one thing I HAVE noticed lately is that they've been putting the yellow(?) sale tags on items that have the original price on them! I only noticed because a couple of the items I buy each week appeared to be on sale but because I buy them every week, I knew it was the same price. Sure enough, I slid the sale tag out of the way and the normal white tag underneath had the same price. Noticed this on 3 items last week!

A few weeks ago I was getting some dishwasher soap. They had a yellow "price drop" sign by the larger pack. I slid it a little to see how much is used to be to find out that the price drop was really an increase. :scared1: I did some quick calculations and it was cheaper to buy two of the smaller boxes than it was to buy the larger one (the smaller size had 1/2 as many ounces.)
