Marathon Weekend 2025

SAFD: I joined in 2008, and being a cynical?/cautious?/whatever kind of person, I decided on a vague screen name. So it's the first four letters of each of my family (me, DH, DD, DS) and part of my last name.

My avatar is my feet (I don't care if I'm in a cold weather climate--I want sandals!), my dog Buddy's front paws and the neighborhood Hidden Mickey. Buddy died earlier this year at nearly 18, that Hidden Mickey has been paved over......I'm still here, though!

SAFD: my screen name is just my last name and initials. My avatar is my heart dog, Mallory. We got her in 2008 just after MW. In 2007 we were looking to add a second dog to the family since we had moved and now had a big fenced yard. DH showed me her pic at thanksgiving 2007. I finally called at the end of Dec hoping she was already rescued. She had been returned so everything came together after MW 2008. She was a little over a year old and crazy. She ran with me for a few years. In 2013 is when I noticed the back paw dragging. In March 2014 she went in the wheels. She crossed the rainbow bridge in July 2021. They thought she had DM but she outlived that diagnosis. Expect it was spinal or disc disease.

SAFD: Cliff Secord is the name of the main character from Disney's 1991 live action movie, The Rocketeer. Loved that flick as a kid.

SAFD: I’m a DIS oldster - my username actually dates back to the 90s, 3 different board platforms ago. It’s ironic: my first name starts with a V and I am no princess. :rotfl:

Avatar is Mabel from Gravity Falls, a show my son and I adore. It’s semi-ironic: I’m the most optimistic pessimist you may ever meet. In truth, I’m probably a lot more of a Grunkle Stan. :rotfl2:

SAFD: When I joined the boards in 2008, my daughter was 3 years old and had two Eeyore stuffed animals that she took everywhere, we referred to them as Big Eeyore and Little Eeyore. So that's how that happened! She is now in college.
Photo is after the marathon a couple of years ago - I rarely venture outside of this part of the boards so wanted something to reflect my love for rD!

SAFD: Have always been a big fan of Ireland, its people, culture and, of course, the best beverage to ever be created by human hands. Part of the reason I was running in the early days was because it helped allow me to eat and drink what I wanted without feeling guilty. So made sense to me to combine two of the loves in my life to create my username.

As for my avatar, I really hate most photos of myself so was looking one day for something to use and came across this one. Considering how I feel after most races, it fit perfectly.

SAFD: my screen name is a nickname my old coworker gave me. Nothing meaningful to my personality or anything, but it was a cute rhyme (the A sound in Nanci and pants) so I took it for my first World of Warcraft username since I couldn’t use my other Star Wars related handles. It has now followed me across the internet.

Avatar is me on Rise of the Resistance. I love Star Wars, and I love Disney.

SAFD: My screen name is about as boring as it gets. When I signed up I think it rejected my first 3 picks and I just wanted to sign up so grabbed the username from some (long forgotten) board or email service that had randomly assigned me a username made up of first name, last initial and random number. Nothing to do with 3D anything! :)

Avatar is a picture I took of the ToT that I liked. It’s also one of my favorite attractions.

SAFD: This is actually my second screen name which I completely forgot happened that led to me introducing myself by the wrong screen name when I went to the meet up prior to the Princess HM in 2023. My old one was my name and I can’t remember how that got screwed up, but this one is my initials and the last four numbers of my cell phone.

The picture in my avatar is me running towards Fantasyland during the 2022 marathon, my first marathon and runDisney event. I had NO idea what I was doing at all and was riding a high that lasted me until just after DHS when my right leg started cramping.

SAFD: My screen name is a very long (mostly boring) story but it's a name I use everywhere on the internet which I'm now aware is a bad idea so, whoops!

Avatar is a pic of my two sons during our trip in early 2013. Oldest son was in a huge Perry the Platypus phase and youngest was just beginning to develop his lifetime love of Star Wars. I remember this was the year they had actual snow in a building in DHS as part of a promotion for Frozen. They still talk about playing in the snow in Florida. On one hand I miss the magic of the parks when they were younger, on the other hand I do not miss dealing with strollers and nap times. They're still fun travel buddies and now they carry their own stuff (and sometimes run with me!).

SAFD: My first rD event was Princess 2013, and I like to say that DH confused me into running such a long distance with his talk of Disney and tiaras and getting to be a princess. Pirates is one of my two favorite rides at MK (along with HM), and at the time I stopped lurking and actually joined the boards, I was surprised to find that I was actually a runner.

My avatar is one of my favorite medals, and was from the challenge at PW 2014. It was then called the Glass Slipper Challenge. I never imagined when I did it that I’d ever do something like that. I expected the half in 2013 to be my “one and done.” That turned out not to be the case at all (no surprise to anybody here).

I have to say that this is one of the best SAFD questions we’ve ever had. The stories behind the names/avatars are fun to hear!

Just to be clear - I'm not giving up. If I have to crawl, I'm gonna finish. I hope I don't have to crawl. :)
Just go look at my training journal, and you’ll feel better. I’ve been sick like 3x since August, plus all the other family stuff, and somehow massively unmotivated. We’ll be OK. The fact that we know we need to do better is a good thing. We aren’t naive to the reality that we will feel better and have a better time if we get consistent for the next few months. 👍

One of my favorite movies as well. I just love the golden age of comics / '30's serial thriller aspect of it, plus the GeeBee racer replicas that were part of the movie. I saw Delmar Benjamin's R-1 replica being flown by him at Oshkosh, and got to talk to him. An airplane that I'm currently working on is a low wing with external strut bracing, so it has that same era appearance to hit.

>> I have to say that this is one of the best SAFD questions we’ve ever had. The stories behind the names/avatars are fun to hear!
Agreed!!

>> we made sure to get rental houses with pools and then the in-laws at the other house never let their kids USE IT, someone ate the wrong packed sandwich in the park and people didn't talk to each other for an entire day because they refused to eat any of the other sandwiches packed OR buy something to eat.

OMG, we really are related….
(And I totally had to steal Herding_cats ideas for medal photos. Didn't have my Mickey ears with me, but otherwise totally did similar when I was down there last Feb to do some Dopey medal pics).

SAFD: I picked Mr Incredible not because I'm strong (I'm not) but because I like trying to do realistic costuming and I most resemble the out-of-shape Bob Parr at the beginning of the first movie. In addition, I had his work cube at a prior job, i.e. one with a giant support column taking up most of the cube. I laughed out loud at that scene. I also love the mashup of 007 and comic book superheros in the two Incredibles movies. After I finished the half last January I headed over to HS, still in my Mr I attire and managed to get some good photos with Mr and Mrs I. They saw me coming down Pixar alley in HS and started pointing and waving, even as they were taking photos with other guests. Near as I could tell, they had as much fun taking pictures as I did. There was also a learning-challenged young lady who wanted a picture with me, and there was no way I was going to tell her I was anyone other than Mr I. My avatar photo is from 2024 MW, or maybe 2022. I have fun with it and have done Mr I for one or two local races as well.

That said, one of my absolute favorite race photos is me as Deadpool with Goofy and one in front of the castle. Why? Because in those photos, I look rather thin, which is what I'm striving for, hopefully for better race times in addition to general fitness.

someone talk me off the edge - I'm freaking out. 2 months left and I'm struggling. I had a cold for 6 weeks, ran a slow 2.5 hr half in the middle but other than that it has been bad. I lost all conditioning due to the dang cold. eeeeeek.
Hold my beer....

You may not get a PR, but with your existing level of training, you'll finish and have fun. Keep that perspective.
