Marathon Weekend 2025

Overall was a good race for me today. Was a bit in my own head during the early miles, but ended up chatting with someone for about 2 miles coming into MK (and found I liked her R/W/R interval a lot better than mine and used it for the rest of the race) and that snapped me into a good mood that carried through. Was a bit bummed about Everest when I got there (I believed the standby time) but then saw @Novatrix coming out of AK and she was nice enough to slow and run with me for a bit and that got me over that hump. Since I didn’t ride Everest, I decided to try something new and actually stopped for two characters for first time in 9 Marathon Weekends (Frozone and Oogie Boogie). No connection to them, but they had no line so figured why not. Ended with a negative split and a smile on my face, so a good day and weekend overall (though my feet and legs aren’t so sure about that).

I am fortunate to have gone out of B, but I will say I liked the new course. Since I didn’t do the 5-K, I liked the torch run in the morning and I felt like we did get more time in MK. Even the new out-back they added in the TTC parking was ok and the crowd support in Epcot was still strong.

Meetups, course support and other help and encouragement from this group reminded me again why I love coming back to MW. Won’t be able to go to DATW tomorrow (have to work) but will prioritize that for next year! Hope everyone has a great time.

Same! I even asked the CM if it was really 25 minutes because I went through at 8:15. He said yes and I bailed. Found out it was only 5. 😡Dang it! Redemption at TOT. That was fun!
I went through at 7:45 and it was marked at 20. I asked too and they said yes 20. If I didn’t have marathon brain I probably would have realized 15 mins into early opening that didn’t make sense but I also didn’t want to chance standing in the cold for 20 mins.

When I ran by 25 the number itself had fallen off and was up against the stand. That was the second or third number I saw that had fallen off. People were picking it up and taking selfies with it.

My mileage was over - 27.2. 😬
I assumed that some people had peeled the numbers off (looked like Velcro?) to take pics
27.13 for me. Oooops
27.02mi for me….which is pretty normal.

I did it! I'm Dopey!! The most fun you never want to have again.

I absolutely could not have done it without @DopeyBadger who got me to the starting line uninjured, through the half with the effort necessary to stay ahead of balloons but not overtax myself, and through today by keeping me on pace and knowing exactly the right thing to say when I was so very done.

I love this so much!! We were watching very intently for you when we exited AK as we knew the very tail end of the pack was entering and didn’t see you. We took that as a sign you were further ahead and it appears that was the case! Congratulations! You did it!!!

Aww, thanks for looking for me! And thank you so much for the pep talk this morning. It really helped!

So I’m pretty sure that wasn’t done to discourage runners but just how RnRc is. When I was at DHS on Wednesday to ask about riding (though that didn’t pan out because of crowds). The CM I was talking to said that single rider consistently can get up to as long as standby.
Yeah, CM told me “lots of cheaters”, basically groups going in SR, not minding getting split up and expecting shorter waits but RnRC isn’t exactly designed to be used well with SR and it REALLY doesn’t help if groups are using it. I was surprised that the situation was that bad though, I feel like at that point just don’t do single rider.

I had such a fantastic race experience, I am still having trouble processing everything!
The weather was perfect running weather for me (cold in the corrals but perfect when in motion; granted I live in Canada so this is springtime weather for us!), the course was fantastic with so many highlights - running on Main St, going through the castle, Star Wars Alley, crowd support from CMs in AK, even the blizzard beach parking lot was fun!

It was my first marathon so obviously a PR, but I was able to accomplish my ideal goal of sub-4 (not officially - chip time is 4:04 but my watch says I ran 43.03 km in 3:59:45 so I will take that!) - my main objective was just to finish it, ideally below 4:30, but I never thought I could go this fast 😁
I was able to stop for almost all the character stops that had a photopass photographer (I think I stopped at 21 during the race + 4 photo stops at the finish!)

As so many have said before, thank you so much to all of you for your support through this wonderful journey. Your advice about training, fueling, how to manage race day and all the wonderful kindness and support has been amazing. This is a very rare thing these days on Internet forums, so I feel very grateful to be part of this community!

Today is a day I will always remember 😊

Until next time friends! (Not next year for me, but maybe 2026? Let’s see!! ☺️)

Congrats to everyone who ran this weekend!

I didn’t make my original time goal, but going in with an injury I knew that was likely. I held pace until mile 14, and then enjoyed characters and photo ops. It was a wonderful 1st marathon experience! DH is wanting Dopey for next year 😂😂. We will see!
Thanks to everyone here for the advice, info, and support! It was great to meet a few of you this morning!

Single rider is abused to the point of being counterproductive at both WDW and Universal. You will regularly see groups of 5+ in single rider lines and they will often intentionally cause confusion in order to attempt to ride together when they get to the front.

Not sure when the idea of single rider being a “hack” was popularized, but that is certainly no longer the case. The only time I ever see it not being abused are when the parks are slow and a specific ride that offers them doesn’t really have a lengthy regular line.

As someone who more often than nót goes solo, I have a fantasy that the rules would be you cant enter if you are clearly with a group.

I share that fantasy. I also fantasize that Smuggler’s Run wouldn’t punish legit single riders by making us engineers—especially if we don’t come through the regular line. I lucked out on my LL the other day and the assigned up/down pilot didn’t want to do it, and I raised my hand first.

On the subject of mileage, I had 26.72, but there was a short segment of the Boardwalk that I was accidentally paused for.

Also, while I really hate the color of the Dopey shirt, I’m darn well going to wear it tonight!! Not tomorrow though, because it will look even more hideous with my Dopey Strong Sparkle Skirt.

I actually don’t mind the engineer roll or at least I like it a lot better than being a gunner. I have only been a pilot once - and I think it was because I did single rider early in the day and there wasn’t enough people through the pre-show yet, so I was the only one on the ride. Ha!

Marathon number 10 complete. There may be another one someday, but I have been nonstop marathon training since late summer of 2018. I’m mentally done done done.

I am still not okay from last spring’s car accident. I went into today not expecting to finish. It took me 6 hours, but I did it and met my two goals - Pic in front of the castle in the dark and riding Everest. I met both those goals. A friend waited for me to catch up to him in AK so we could ride Everest together. Another great friend gave me the most needed hug and some sips of cold beer and pretzels when I reached the boardwalk. I had more friends waiting for me in Epcot and when I saw my husband with them I ran straight into his arms and cried. I got lots more sweaty hugs before they handed me a nice cold beer and sent me on my way to cross the finish line.
