As I get older, my rosacea is just getting worse. I know my biggest triggers are stress. However, with two teen girls and being the only parent, plus being a teacher, my stress is not something that will be eased anytime soon. Since I began wearing makeup (too many years ago), I have always worn Merle Norman. However, the coverage just doesn't seem to be effective now. When I first put my foundation on, it covers okay, but in a few hours, it seems to have "soaked in" to my skin in the problem areas: chin, nose, and areas beside my nose. So, does anyone have any good suggestions for makeup that will cover and STAY on?

Thanks!

Hi there

I am having the same problem lately. I had perfect skin until I hit my mid thirties and for the past ten years it has been downhill. I have been using bare minerals powder foundation in either light or medium beige depending on the time of year. I usually order it from QVC. If you haven't used it before it can be a little tricky at first. You dip the brush into the powder ever so lightly and then swirl the brush into the inside of the cover and then tap the side of the brush onto the side of the cover. Then lightly swirl the brush over your face. I have also just started using Mary Kay tinted moisturizer as well. I don't like to look like I have make up on and the Bare Minerals really helps me achieve that look.

To funny I just noticed an ad for BE at the top of this page.

First I put on Maybelline's cover stick (medium beige) and then smooth on Cover Girl's clean make-up #120. Works for me and usually stays on most of the day unless I get real stressed! :)

I have Rosacea also. I hate how red my cheeks are all the time, it never goes away. I really need some makeup to cover it up, and I've been using BE, I don't really like it anymore.

My friend has rosacea, too. She has also been using the Bare Minerals starter kit. I haven't seen her, she lives in another state, but she says it's working great.

I have been using Bare Minerals for about 3 months now. I never could stand wearing foundation, it made me feel like my face was suffocating. But I really like the Bare Minerals and I have tried the Maybelline brand too. Both are very light and give me the coverage I need. I don't have rosacea, but I do have some reddish areas...aging.(((sigh))) I am still on a trial period with the Maybelline, I hope it keeps working for me, it's less than half the price of PM, and you get about three times as much product. I would gladly pay for the BM if it doesn't work out with Maybelline, well worth it.

OP, If you have a store in your area that sells BM, I would go in and have them do a demonstration for you. Then you can wear it all day and see how it feels, as well as making sure you choose the right color.

I actually wear both the light and medium shades of BM. I use the light as a concealor, then a light coverage, then use the medium over that , lightly also. I use the Glee as a blush instead of overall color.

I know some companies make a green liquid moisturizer that you put on before your makeup and it dulls out the red. Have you ever tried that ?

Boots (sold at Target makes one) . here is some more info I quickly found about it
no7colourcalmingmakeupbase.jpg

Boots No7 Colour Calming is a makeup base and red skin tone neutralizer. It is a sea green color, however I found that this product really varies from Physician’s Formula Conceal Rx. Whereas Conceal Rx made me look green and zombie-like if I didn’t apply the right amount, the Colour Calming didn’t give me that pale look at all. This green concealer seemed to spread translucent, yet still completely neutralized the redness that plagues me near my nose, mouth and cheeks. My skin looked so fabulous that I really haven’t stopped talking about this product to my family. I am absolutely impressed with how well it worked without making me “work” to balance exactly how much I need to conceal the redness yet not look too green.

A friend told me that using some type of Aveeno soap has helped them. Maybe it had oatmeal in it? I'm sorry. I can't remember.

I dont have Rosacea - and Im not too familiar with it. But so many people have had such good luck with Mineral Makeup as opposed to liquid foundation. Have you tried any?

EverydayMinerals.com - offers a really generous sized sample - and you only pay for shipping - about $4.

Then you could try it and see if it works - and if not....youre only out $4.

I really like everydayminerals. I use it every day - ba dum chee! Corny. :)

Thanks so much! I am definitely going to look into the green concealer and the mineral foundation.

I would love some help picking out face color.

I would love some help picking out face color.

You (or anyone) can PM me with a pic if you'd like.

I love and I mean LOVE makeup. Ive loved makeup since I was a little wee-one. So Ive used SO many different things, and when people were first jumping on the mineral bandwagon, I was like - thats impossible. How can a powder cover like a liquid??

Then a DIS'er (I wish I remembered who) posted about everydayminerals and the $4 sample - so I gave it a shot.

The first time I put it on, I was like 'No way!!! NO WAY!!!!"

Im totally impressed. Even in WDW heat - it stays. Its really impressive.

Clinique also has an anti-redness line. I believe I have rosacea, just haven't been to a doctor about it yet. But I just bought some of their line, both of them are 'green tea' colored and seem to be evening out my skin bit by bit. I've only used it for a week, and of course my cheek is still red, but I already see a bit of a difference.

The downside is that it's ridiculously expensive!

ETA: I'm silly. I didn't post any makeup! But one of the anti redness I use at night, and the other I use under makeup!

I have rosacea and I use Clinique's Workout Makeup. I can't speak to the mineral makeups, because I have a weird allergy, but I have used Clinique for years & am very happy with it.

Have you seen a dermo about your skin? I switched doctors about 2 years ago and the new one got me started on some treatments that REALLY help the rosacea. I use a special face soap once a day and use a topical ointment after washing my face in the morning & evening. If I stick to that regimin, my rosacea stays MUCH less noticable. I do get litte bumps around my nose, but if I take the low-dose oral antibiotic that the doctor prescribes, that stays under control.

Between the makeup and the dermo products, my skin looks really good right now. The only time I get really red is when I drink alcohol - I could never be a closet alcoholic.....my face and chest give me away!

I have rosacea on my nose, and I had no luck with the Clinique line. I used it for 2 weeks, and it actually made my nose break out worse. I use Philosophy Purity Made Simple, On a Clear Day, and Hope in a Jar for skin care. I use Bare Escentuals now for makeup. It hasn't helped prevent my breakouts, but it does cover better than anything else I have used.

Smashbox also sells a green color-correcting liquid. That is carried at Ulta stores.

I second this. I have Rosacea and my dermo put me on oral medicine for a few months along with a topical gel. You would never even know I have rocacea. You need to clear up your skin instead of just covering it.

I use Clinique anti- reddness. It's OK. Not sure if it's worth the money though.

I switched to Bare Escentuals a month ago and have gotten so many compliments on how much younger I look. It is great stuff. I am still getting used to it. But it is working.
