Magic key upgrade - very confused

Hi all. I’m very confused about upgrading from unused tickets to a magic key. We want to buy Inspire keys. However, we already have a vacation booked through Disney, hotel and tickets all included. From what I understand we can’t buy the magic key now, and apply the 5 day tix we bought to the cost of that key unless we are at the park, is this right? We are not going until April so I’m worried there won’t be any keys available until then. If we buy the keys now, can we still go to the ticket booths to have the existing tickets applied or refunded?
As well, we have made our park reservations for our 5 day tickets. If we switch the magic keys and activate them on day 1, do we lose our existing park reservations or would they be valid as they are tied to the original 5 day tix?
We don’t really want to wait on the keys in case they aren’t available then, but we’ve already bought our tickets.
We are still in the full refund cancellation time frame for the hotel, but prices have gone up since we booked so I don’t want to cancel and rebook.

You can apply unused tickets if you do it in person at the ticket booth. Otherwise, yes, the ticket has to be used to apply the cost to the upgrade online.

No, if you buy them now you can't later get the existing tickets applied. You can't get them refunded as cash. You can use the value of the tickets on a separate ticket purchase.

You will lose your existing park reservations. The MK is considered a separate ticket.

You will need to re-book your reservations. Currently, April reservations for Inspire MK are wide open. If you purchase your MK now, you shouldn't have any problem booking the dates that you want. March is also wide open with the exception of March 1 when reservations are available for DCA but not DL.

I wouldn't assume that MK will be available in April. I think they will cut sales just before they announce additional details for Disneyland's 70th.

What the prior posters said is true.

Have you looked at re-pricing your reservation to be a room only reservation (there is no dining plan at Disneyland)? You might be able to get a good deal with the Magic Key rates.

Cancel the current reservations, buy the Magic Keys and book a room-only reservation for wherever you are staying at.

Another option is to buy the Magic Key now, but not activate it til your next trip… you have one year from date of purchase to activate the MK.

Great! Buy your MK now. You don't want to take any chances that they might shut down MK sales tomorrow.
