Magic Band charging issue

I received my two magic bands, and didn’t realize they have to be fully charged before you can link or update or pair them.

Unfortunately, I either got 2 defective bands or I’m doing this charging completely wrong. They’ve been charging for over 3 hours and they aren’t close to being fully charged/green.

Any advice?

Thanks!

It could be your charger. I bought my son-in-law a magic band+. I will have to see about what happens when we charge it.

You mean the two chargers that came with two bands?

I could try changing outlets...The first person I spoke to at Disney put me through to essentially IT..,that guy was of no help, and he ultimately told me I need to call Shop Disney

The woman I’m on with now said it might need to be charged for 8 hours, but that seems highly unlikely. I read on-line that initially charging them shouldn’t take more than 2 hours.

8 hours? Yikes. I suppose if both bands aren't charging fast it might just be the technology

The girl I spoke with was trying her best, but she said she’s never had a question about magic bands and charging. I probably should have called Shop Disney in the first place. I’ve switched both bands to other outlets..if It doesn’t work, it appears I somehow got defective bands, lol. I’m leaving for WDW next Sunday, so I need to get this taken care of ...

What color lights and how much of the band circle is illuminated? Ours wouldn’t fully charge until they were paired to our phones. They would get a green light a quarter of the band. Once paired though, we could get the full green circle. You could also try resetting it by holding down the button on the back until it beeps/vibrates, about 20 seconds.

ok, so by now they’ve been charging in their new outlets for at least 2 hours. The 50th anniversary one, with the Partners image in the face, is solid green until just about the 9 o‘clock would be....The EPCOT one, solid green to just a bit last 9.....and the green on both starts at around 6, so that‘s about 30% complete

On MDE, apparently the EPCOT one IS paired, and I can make updates. It even says the band is charging.

The 50th anniversary one says it’s not connected, and I’m unable to pair.

I did try pressing that button again on one of them, I forget which, and it went back to yellow..I’m not sure if I should try again.

Thanks!

Now my 50th is updating...I suspect the problem was with the phone charger I used to plug in the magic band‘s “plug”....Hopefully both bands will now get fully green. Wow, I hope I don’t have these issues charging in the hotel or using the portable charger I bought, lol

The bands look like they are solid green, but they don’t show that all the time, just kind of flash it at times...and the face lights up. Does that mean they are all good to go?

Thanks!

Sounds like it to me. MDE should show them fully charged. Sounds like you might need a new square for charging. Also double check them the night before you leave to make sure they’re still charged. I found they run down even when not in use, just like my Fitbit does.

I was so relieved that I finally got them working - I even confirmed they were fully charged on MDE.

I think I assumed they were fully charged, which is why I didn’t do anything about the first - EPCOT - band I received until yesterday, when I received my 50th anniversary one. Whew!

The squares I was using work fine for my phone and iPad, but it looks like the magic bands required a bit more juice. It’s hard to tell if it was the outlets or the squares...I’m going to bring a few with me just in case.

I will check - great tip, thanks!

I’ve had issues with my band since I got it. I think I finally figured mine out. When I plug it in, it blinks red. Eventually, it starts blinking green. But if I take it off the charger and it’s paired, it will not show full charge. I kept waiting for a solid green. But mine is fully charged within a couple hours of blinking green. I can keep it plugged in over night, and it will continue to blink green. And while it’s charging, MDE just says charging.

Be sure to turn it off when you are not using it. Press the button on the back until it beeps/vibrates twice, about 16 seconds. The band light will turn red, and it will power down. This should help to keep the battery from draining too much. Just press the button to power on.

Thanks! I did not know this either.

The magic band plus might be the worst product i've purchased in the last few years. It does nothing of any use, is more complicated than a normal magic band with no benefits. The only thing it does is buzz randomly when you walk near any of the golden statues. How anyone thought releasing this product was a good idea is beyond me. Pathetic.

How will I know if its completely off? If the lights on the side aren’t glowing at all?

Thanks for the tip !

When you press the button for 3 beeps, a red light will come on around the band and then go off. It also will not connect to your phone’s Bluetooth. You can see that in the phone settings and in the app, I think,

Thank you so much! It turns out my bands were not off, and so now they were only partially charged. Whew ! I never would have known if you hadn’t mentioned this.

Thanks again!

remember that you don't need to charge or pair or anything for this magicband plus to work like the old ones. All that is optional.

Some people used to pay $30-50 for old magicbands just because of specific designs. if you don't like the cumbersome features, it still works just as an old magicband

Mine charged easily and quickly. I also did not note the running down of the battery that others have complained about. Every time I checked the thing during that day it said it was 100%. I did notice that the Golden statue things seldom responded to me.

Yes, a more expensive, more bulky, less attractive version of the product that’s been out for over a decade. Winner!!!
