Luggage inspected/metal tumblers the problem??

One of our large bags was obviously checked because my garment bag with all our dress clothes had black grease on it. I discovered it as I was pulling it out of the bag and got grease all over my hands, I ended up throwing it away.
The bag had clothes in cubes and 1 cube had misc. items with the tumblers filled with small items, the garment bag on top. So was it the metal tumblers that set something off? First time ever traveling with those items, so I’m just guessing.

We had an inspection for my wife's curling iron as if it were a thermonuclear warhead. The ship's officer had us open her bag whereupon he promptly did a vigorous hand based examination of that dastardly curling iron. Joking aside, I appreciate the job they do, but it was a bit silly.

I got a sticker on one of my bags last year that a dog had alerted to my bag and it had been subjected to extra checks. The sticker had a pic of a dog and had the name of the dog who checked it! Nothing but clothes and toiletries in the bag.

I'm not sure those are necessarily what caused the inspection. We have traveled with metal tumblers and water bottles on a number of cruises and have not noticed our bags were inspected.
Probably the small items in the tumblers that couldn't be clearly identified. We take metal tumblers in our carryons all the time too, but they're empty.

That's my guess. Best to just keep the tumblers empty. Or carry them on if you're going to put things in them.

I probably shouldn’t have filled the metal tumblers with items, now I know. We didn’t use them that much so next time I won’t take them.

Had my Dyson wand taken out of my bag last week for the first time in many cruises. I usually carry it on and this time I put it in the regular luggage.

I have heard anecdotally that they're starting to confiscate some of the Dyson products. Could be coincidence, but I've seen more chatter on other social media sites that they're getting taken when they didn't use to be.

DH's carry-on was hand inspected in front of us because TSA had no idea what something was. He eventually found what he was looking for -- DH's extra prosthetic sleeve. I commented, "I bet you don't see that every day."

I think this is true. The lady at the desk said these things are so powerful they can cause power outages. I just ordered a travel type of defrizz brush. Hope it works as good, I have my doubts
