Legos for 8 yo boy

On another post here, there is info about yoyo.com and you get 40% off one toy, including legos, using code Toy40. I'm out on their website now and there are lots and lots of legos to check out. There is an option to put in the age group and gender you're searching for so that might help. I'm looking at getting the Creator Seaside House for my almost 9 yo DGS as I've never seen that anywhere so it should be new to him. Hint, order something else for under $5(I'm getting the 64 count Crayola crayon set)and you'll get free shipping. I'm paying $33.51 for both.

Thank you SO much for posting this! I just bought DS9 a Lego Ninjago skull truck for about $39 (with tax+free shipping!) I was at a loss on which one to get, because I didn't want to spend too much on one item. We want to by several "little things" for the kids, since we're surprising them with a cruise for Christmas. Thanks again!

My son (8) got a monster fighter set for his birthday (11/3) and he has been putting it together. It is really cool with glow in the dark pieces and the zapper for Frankenstein lights up. Fun stuff!

Except Toys R Us is so grossly overpriced that buy one, get one half off is prett much just paying retail price.

I don't understand these kinds of comments... all the sets I looked at (and I looked at more than a few) are right in line with the prices on the Lego site.
:confused3

Are you in Canada (where prices are in line)?

There are very, very few sets with identical pricing. TRU is usually inflated by 10%-20%.

Every few weeks Toys R Us has an online-only "sale" where all the prices are reduced to LEGO's MSRP.

Over a long period of time checking out TRU prices, that's not my experience. And even when it's the same, I want the Lego VIP rewards if I can, do I try to buy from Lego directly if prices are the same.

We are a big Lego family. Amazon often beats TRUs. For example, my mother-in-law just got DS one of the Monster Legos for Christmas. It was $59.00 at TRUs and $46.00 at Amazon with free shipping.

Don't know about that particular poster but I am in Canada and nope, the prices aren't in line. I suppose in line with inflated, but Lego.ca is so much more expensive than Lego.com I order from the States and pick it up over the border. I still save a fortune with paying duty.
Target and Walmart.com are even lower with sales.

For example the Mindstorms? I got it for 240 plus tax on American Amazon. It's 350 on Lego.ca.

Last year I got ds the Lego Harry Potter castle and saved 65-70 dollars over anywhere here.

That was not what I was referring to. In the U.S., TRU is much more expensive than LEGO. In Canada, TRU.ca is more in line with LEGO.ca.

LEGO is more expensive in Canada because, among other reasons, Canada charges ridiculous import tariffs on consumer goods from Europe; the U.S. doesn't charge any.

DD is dying for the LOTR sets and some more Star Wars sets. She doesn't have any of the Ninjago sets but watches the cartoons a lot, so that's probably pretty hot.

The first batch of 2013 sets - including some really cool new City sets - is now available at Lego.com. There's a cool police chase set for $30 that includes LEGO's new police hero character, Chase McCain.

My DS really wanted Lite Brix this year. They are stand alone sets, but they can be interchanged with Legos. I think they would make a nice addition to any Lego collection.
