Kohls' return policy

While we're on the topic of return policies, let me add my story. I had heard that Kohls does not have a time limit on returns, even without a receipt. I had a pair of shoes that I bought, who knows when, and realized I was never going to wear them. I have no idea what I paid for them, but the clearance sticker said $36, so I'm guessing I paid $18. Anyway, the woman looked them up in the system and was going to give me 50 CENTS for them. I brought them home, to be donated at a later date. I guess I'll save all my Kohls receipts forever!

I had this happen this summer. I had bought a bunch of stuff for DH. I swore I kept hte receipt in the bag but when I went to return could not find the stuff. I was returning it three days later. There were some shirts and some pants I had gotten on clearance three days before. For the pants, they were going to give me $1.18 and the shirts were less than a dollar. The tax donation is a lot better so I took them to our local food shelf/crisis center. I just decided to get joy out of thinking how blessed another person would be by those brand new clothes.

Odd though--I went to the clearance area afterward and sure couldn't find anything for that good of a price! Even though very similar shirts were still on the rack.....

That's what I was thinking - I've never seen any shoes at Kohls for 50 cents. The "original" price on my shoes was $59.99, so my 50 cents was less than 1% of the original price. Do they ever mark anything 99% off? If so, I want to go to that sale.

As far as I know they dont have a return policy. I bought some maternity wear in April I thinking I would need it eventually. I didnt gain enough weight with my son that I even wore maternity clothes, so in Feb. I took it back. I did have the receipt so I did get what I paid for them.

They have a policy - it just doesn't have a time limit. The key is to keep your receipts like you did!

That happens to me at TARGET all the time  i can't stand that!! haha!! now i staple the receipt to the tags or box or anything that i buy so that if i return it, i have that ::yes:: i also ask for 1 gift receipt for EVERYTHING i buy ( i buy 7 items i get 7 gift receipts) and i attach those if i only have one reciept. THEN i can at least get store credit.

Doesn't Target also still do the if you bought it with a credit card they can look it up thing? I LOVE that!! Kohl's will only do that if you used a Kohl's card which I don't have. (And no matter how many times they ask me, I am not getting one until I am more trustworthy with credit!)

I have a funny Kohls return story. I had a few things (maybe 5 or 6 items) that I didn't end up needing after Christmas last year. Some of the items I had bought in October and still had the receipts for everything. The girl at the counter was not happy to see me. She tried to tell me they had a 30 day return policy. I asked her where that was posted and she pointed to a sign. I still didn't see anything written so I asked her where and she said "well maybe it's not there but I've seen it somewhere." I just smiled and told her I'd still like to do the returns. So she grudgingly returned the items and said... "I know, your just trying to pay off your card." At that point I just raised my eyebrows and walked away. Man was she rude! I'm pretty sure none of that was coming out of her paycheck :rotfl2:

This is the reason I hate Khols and never shop there any more. There is no such thing as your money back. It is strictly store credit. Plus heaven forbid you don't have a reciept cause they will give you credit of a lot less then what you paid. I have had a credit there for a little over a dollar for many years now. :rotfl2:

My mom got a pair of boots one time at Kohls for $.50. She didn't know it before she bought them, but they rang up at the register for $.50. She nearly had a heart attack!! It's too bad they don't let you know how cheap things really are ahead of time. I'm guessing they do this "el-cheapo" in their computer systems for a very finite amount of time so they can do the returns so cheaply.

But this is really not true! If you have your receipt - even if it is a year (or more) old, you DO get your money back! You will get cash back if you paid in cash, and credit to your credit card if you paid with a credit card. If your credit card is paid off, then you can request that your credit be sent to you in a check.

It is only when you don't have a receipt that you run into trouble.

As a matter of fact, my mom buys a lot of things for us at Kohl's on her credit card. Then she gives us a copy of the sales slip and we can return things there for full credit.

For US, Kohl's has a system that works VERY well! ::yes::

What??? I never get store credit -- I get how I paid for the item(s) which is either cash or credit card (and not a Kohl's credit card), and for the total amount I paid for it. I've returned thing older than a year old and they've given me every penny I paid back to my credit card (or cash, if that's how I paid). All I had to do was keep my receipt, which I just make sure to toss in my receipt box and then look for any/all receipts in there. Most generous store return policy of anywhere I've shopped, only tied with Staples which also has unlimited time to return with receipt.

That's not the way the Kohls I shop at operates. They refund in the same exact same way you paid, if you have a receipt. :confused3 :confused3

Same here. I'm the OP, and I wasn't posting to bash the Kohls policy, just wanted to point out the huge price markdown and the fact that I'll now be saving all my Kohls receipts. I would have been happy to take a credit if the amount was reasonable, since I didn't have my receipt.

:confused3 I guess not all the stores have the same policies. I am only stating what had happened to me. With or without a receipt they make you take a store credit. :confused3

Good to know there is no time limit - I have a bag of stuff in my car that needs to go back to Kohl's, bought on my credit card, and I should also still have the receipt. I just don't ever seem to get there... it's on my TO DO LIST for this weekend!!!!

Sorry, you are wrong. DS is a Supervisor at Kohl's and the policy is: You can return any item at any time. If you have a receipt, you will get what you paid in the form you paid OR in-store credit (if you so choose). If you paid cash or check, you will get cash back (unless the check has not yet cleared, in which case you will receive in-store credit). If you payed with a credit card, you get the amount you paid back to that card. Gift card and in-store credit comes back as in-store credit.

Without a receipt you will get the lowest price from the last 6 weeks back as in-store credit. With a gift receipt return, you will get what the person paid back as in-store credit.

If an item returns at only 50 cents without a receipt, it is because it is a very old item, likely from 10 or more months ago. Markdowns are done every few weeks to get stock moved, to make room for newer items. If an item sits around, eventually you'll see it for a great price, sometimes as much as 90% off the original price. Or if one of these items from last season are returned, they'll get marked for 50 cents and put on the sales floor. Eventually if the items don't sell, they're removed from the salesfloor and returned to the DC.

I worked for Kohls up until about 6 months ago when my daughter was born, and I worked the service desk. Kohl's really doesnt have a return policy if you have your reciept you can return anything at any time(i had a lady one day openly admit that she used all the clothes she was returning on her vacation but had desided that she did not like the way they fell on her and we had to take them back) if you dont have the slip and it was charged on a kohl's charge they can look up the price you payed for it at anytime as long as you have the ticket so they have the sku number. but if you dont have the slip and it wasnt charged on the kohls charge then you only get the current value and the way things go to clearance so fast in there you could end up gettting almost nothing for it so save those slips I had a lady return a pair of shoes one day that she had the slip for but had purchased like 2 years earlier.

I absolutely agree. I'm so angry with them right now. I bought my husband a gold chain on Kohls.com and when it arrived this week it is so ugly. TRIED to take it back today with a receipt and my credit card and the manager refused to put the charge back on my credit card. I called customer service and got no help. It says right on their return policy that you will receive the credit in the form you paid. NO one will answer me why. After almost an hour the manager would not budge. After the phone call to kohls.com and no help, I'm still struggling with what to do with this $200 gold chain. This is a beware to others! Any suggestions would be helpful. My only recourse is to pay to send it back and HOPE they credit my card. I do not need a $200 store credit when they no longer had any nice chains left to choose from. We had to go elsewhere to buy husband a gift. They advertise this wonderful easy to return policy on their website and when I went to use it, the rules all seem to change and no one in the store will tell be why. When the manager scanned my receipt the register will only offer a store credit.

Try retuning it at a different kohls.

I had a set of pans that were on sale & said dishwasher safe. They WERE NOT dishwasher safe & scratched in the dishwasher. I had already threw away the box but had the instructions saying they were dishwasher safe & i had the reciept. When i took them back to kohls to return them they told me i could have a refund or exchange them for another set of pans that were the same price as the original price of the pans NOT the sale price. So i chose a nice set of Farberware stainless steel that was the same price as the original set of the cheaper ones. :)
