Kohls is a rip off

I spent $70 today and had my 30% off coupon, so I should have saved $21. The clerk said you "owe $49" so I give her my $40 cash bucks and she said "now you owe $22". I said "why is my bill going up - that doesn't make any sense?" She said when we use cash bucks, they come off first then the 30% off. So really I only end up saving 12% not 30%. The cash bucks SHOULD be used like cash or a gift card not another coupon. I won't be combining these offers again or rushing into Kohls for their sales!

Isn't the 30% off only off the amount you put on your kohls card? So the "cash bucks" (kohls cash?) is being used like regular cash or a gift card. You only get 30% off the amount you put on your kohls credit card

What Tiffany said. Plus, most stores have restrictions when it comes to using any "cash bucks" type of offer. They do treat it as a coupon, not as cash or GC. I have an Old Navy credit card and I earn $10 certificates from them after I spend a certain amount on my Old Navy card. They don't let you combine ANY other promos or discounts with these certificates. Kohl's is actually one of the few retailers that will let you combine discounts.

PP is right it is off whatever you charge on your Kohls card(if you have a merchadise credit or a kohls gf you can use those but there has to be a balance left to put on the card). Also on the Kohls cash in the writting that no one ever reads it tells you this. Also one other thing you probably didnt notice... you dont get charged tax on the items purchased with the Kohls cash. Another reason you cant use the 30% off of it.

If you have to return a shirt you can either get a Merchadise credit or it will take off 30% of that shirt and credit it back.

How will that work if I have to return one of the shirts then?

I would "imagine" that they divide up the discount amount among the items.

So say if you saved $7 (with the coupon) and your items were priced at $40, $20 and $10 before the coupon then the coupon would apply so that $4 came off the $40, $2 off the $20, and $1 off the $10. So the same percentage discount would be applied to all. Not sure tho... if you return something let us know what you find out!!

But I never got 30% off the shirt - I only got $9 off for $70 in merchandise so if I'm returning anything I don't get the value that I paid for the item.

Then the $9 discount will be split proportionately between each item. JCP does this, too.

The cashier is right about kohls cash being taken out of the bill first before the 30% coupon applied. Unfortunately that's just the fine print of the promo.
A lot of people didn't realize that before purchase and get upset. But it's written on the kohls cash itself.

Sorry you feel like you got ripped off.

When I use kohls cash I usually buy deep discounted clearance stuff so I don't feel like I lost a lot of $ by not being able to use the coupon. And then use the coupon for the big tix items.

No you got $9 off $30 which is 30% and $40 of free merchadise(that did not get taxed). So the % is still correct. So you will get 30% off the shirt if you return it or you can get a merchadise credit which you will still get the same until you start to return over 30 worth of items on that reciept.

If you are going to be making future purchases from Kohls really the best way to go is a Merchadise Credit especially if you return something when recieving Kohls cash. It allows you to keep the full amount of the Kohls cash.

If you look at your receipt, the amount of Kohl's Cash you used was probably pro-rated among all the items you purchased. Then 30% would be taken off that amount. The remainder is the amount you actually paid for the shirt, and the amount you'd get back if you return it.

So, say you bought 5 shirts that were marked $14 each for a total of $70. You used $40 in Kohl's Cash. The system would divide that $40 over your 5 items, taking $8 off of each shirt. Each shirt now costs you $6. Take off 30% and each shirt is $4.20. That's what you'd get back if you return one.

That's how I use the $10. Sometimes I just grab anything that is $10 and buy it, so I can return it for a GC later. But this time I found a few clearance items and paid about $3. for what I got. HTH!

Just hope everything fits then! Didn't have time to try on during my lunch hour.

I think it helps to think of the Kohls Cash as a coupon. When paying the coupon(Kohls Cash) comes off first, and then any percent off discount you may have.

I've never gotten Kohl's Cash, but this is what I do at Old Navy. If I have a $10 certificate and a % off coupon, I'll do two seperate transactions. Get $10 worth of merchandise for free with the certificate, then use my % off coupon for the rest of my items. I've never had a problem doing this, I just ask the cashier to ring them up seperately.

That's great advice - wish I had known how the system works ahead of time. With a large ticket item, it would make a huge difference.

that is why I make two separate check outs. I use my kohls cash on one item. Pay.

Then I check out again using my 30% off. Pay.

That way if I have to return anything, I only have to worry about the kohls cash being tied to one item.

No, you saved $49. $40 KGC + $9 from the 30% off. They may call the $40 "cash", but it's a coupon.

That's how JCPenney does it when you have a 'coupon', so I imagine Kohls would do pretty much the same thing.

Yep, I do that at ON and at Kohl's. Works the same both places. And actually, a clerk at Old Navy told me to do it that way about a year ago. I love OL!
