I wanted to report back for those of you that are looking for a great burger at Disney World, that the Yak and Yeti restaurant has just begun testing a Kobe beef burger at the restaurant. It is not yet on the menu, but I ate it on Sunday after it was described by our waiter. It is a large juicy burger on a ciabatta roll. You may choose an asian slaw with a soy based mayo (which is what I ordered) or mushrooms. I ordered it medium; it came out about medium to medium rare, which was perfect. I forgot to take a picture before I ate most of it, but I can tell you that it was really, really delicious, and may be the best burger I've ever had, that I haven't made myself.

A manager came over to talk to me, wanting to know how I liked the burger. I told her that I loved it, and asked what was in the mayo. (Soy sauce, sesame oil, and scallions). She wasn't quite sure of everything so she went back to the kitchen and asked. When she came back out, she also mentioned that they will be rolling out a new chicken wing dish next week as well.

Sounds awesome!! Do you recall how much it cost? We have a lunch reservation there next week and may check into this. I had a Kobe burger at the Rogue Brewery in Oregon last year and it was the BEST burger I have ever eaten. Hands down.

Sounds really good. If they have it there next year, I may have to get it.

I'm sort of shocked that a place that accepts the dining plan can afford to offer an actual Kobe beef burger.

I agree! But, heck, even if it weren't real Kobe, it was still really really great!

As for the price, I'll check my receipt when I get home... The burger, of course, came with fries, but also a side of pickled cucumbers (which are pretty much just pickles in my book).

I checked my receipt, and the burger was $17.99. Worth every penny!

Thanks!! A little pricier than the one I had in Oregon but I may still go for it. Thanks for the heads up.

Glad to see it cost so much! LOL Kobe beef is great, but expensive. I recently went to a non-Disney restaurant where they had a Kobe beef burger for $8.50. We asked if it was real Kobe beef, and were told that it was. We asked how big it was, and were told that it was significantly bigger than a McDonalds burger. When we forced the waiter to check with the chef, he came back and told us that it was actually ground beef with a "dolop" of Kobe. We passed.

Sounds like Yak and Yeti has the real thing!

1) It could not have been pure Japanese Kobe beef.
2) The last Kobe burger I saw was over $125 (my expense account couldn't afford it).
3) A pound of real Japanese Kobe costs about $225/pound.
4) It can go to over $300/pound.
5) American Kobe hamburgers are as cheap as $6.25/pound.
6) They are "Kobe" cattle, but not raised/fed/treated the same way.
7) There is a significant difference in quality and taste.
8) For a restaurant price of $18, I suspect American Kobe beef burger.

At V&A there is an upcharge of $30 for Australian "Kobe" Beef and there is an $80 upcharge for actual Japanese Wagyu Beef. Note that Japan does not allow the export of actual Kobe Beef.

Here is a link http://www.chefseattle.com/articles/kobe-beef/index.html to one of the best articles I have seen about Kobe Beef.

Thanks for the great article!

Agreed. Though real Japanese Kobe beef is not available in the US (since only one area in Japan produces it and it is not exported legally). I'm sure the beef was a Wagyu (of which "Kobe" is a very specialized type) cross breed or mixed with something else. The whole Kobe thing is very confusing and I wish it were regulated more, like champagne is.

Still doesn't deter from the delisiousness. Mmm!
