I need to find some cups that have lids that are appropriate for my 4.5 yr old. He's too big for sippy cups but can't handle regular cups.

I had the tupperware tumblers when I was a kid, but wholly moley they are expensive for the set!

What did you guys use?

TIA!

The "disposable" kind has a spout similar to "tupperware". Not quite a sippy cup, but still a little cup with a place for your lips. Doesn't gerber make those? They can last a long while as long as your kid isn't a chewer making them very reusable.

They also sell the straw sippies--in more "grown up kid" designs. I have used those as well.

At Target in the paper cup/paper plate aisle they have a kids travel pack made by Solo. Has like 10 cups with lids and straws. We actually bought them at the Target off Rte 192when we rented a place in Indian creek since they did't have any kids cups there and they held up great! My 11, 8 and 3 y.o. used them!

Why can't he handle regular cups? Is he special needs?

Buy the cheap plastic little cups without lids, and start having him use those. Start having him use them just at the table, and liquids that won't stain. I bet within a day or two he'll be using them just fine.:thumbsup2

Believe me, when/if he starts pre-school, they won't be giving him cups with lids. I work at a daycare center, and the kids ages 3+ all use regular cups. Actually most of the 2 year olds do,too.

Have you tried the Nuby cups?? Or maybe the Gerber graduates ones?? Target also has the Disney Take and toss cups that are similar to the Tupperware ones.

When we need a cup with a lid, we use the take and toss disposable plastic cups with straws. I don't like the straight straws that come with them so I buy the bendy straws.

How about the cup that they sell at Barnes and Noble in the cafe? They have a little button on the back and they can sip through an opening and closes right after they let go. Also, there are the ones that have the twist on them that allows the straws to pop up.

I use the Disney Store water globe tumblers (it looks like the base is a snow globe) with the bendy straws. I still use them for my 8 yr old at home when she is drinking in the living room or den, this way if they get knocked over the spillage is minimal. I put them all in the dishwasher and we have had ours for years. They sell replacement straws so if they ones you have get wonky you just replace the plastic straw.

I would get him a sports bottle with sports top. Even adults use those in the parks. They are a wee bit expensive but they are reusable and don't look like a baby sippy.

http://www.rei.com/product/802707 These are 18oz, but they come in 12oz, too. My 5yo uses an 18oz in the parks.

What if he is special needs? Does a person have to disclose such information to ask for sippy cup recommendations? I would hope not. Your reply seemed a bit rude.

We used take and toss, and the thermos funtainers for travel and things that needed to stay cold longer.
Actually my 7yo still uses the funtainer for his drink with lunch @ school.

Another vote for the take 'n toss cups. They have some with straws and some with sippy cup type lids. They are also dishwasher safe!! :thumbsup2

I used the Tupperware Impressions Tumblers. They are a regular cup, but have a lid you can use w/a straw hole. When a straw isn't in they are sealed and pretty much don't leak.

They are pricy but I bought a set 8 years ago w/my oldest and they still work great, 3 kids later. I still use them w/the list when we do movie night and every day otherwise.

DD uses straw cups. Loves them. She never used a traditional sippy cup. I would probably get those and use them.

While I would encourage you to continue to work with him in using a regular cup at meals, there are plenty of times that many 4 year old use sippy cups. DGS uses a regular cup at the table but if we are having drinks in the living room or car or even caring around outside, we give him a sippy. Also at family events, picnics etc, if he has a sippy cup that he can carry and not spill he will drink more, an issue for him as he is an excessive sweater! He likes the disposable sippy cups and they do not look baby. I too agree that the thermas sports type cups with straws are great for older kids. As long as he is happy with the ones you have now, I would not worry about changing because he is "too old" for them.

I also vote for the take and toss. We started with the ones that are like sippy cups and then went to the ones with straws. We still use the ones with straws now at night time since DD who is 8 likes to bring milk into her room and this helps with spills, otherwise she now uses a regular cup.

Once our youngest one is ready I will move her into the take and toss ones that are more like a sippy cup, she is currently using the nubby ones and they are great.

I think about that age the boys started just using Tervis Tumblers - a smaller version of their Dad's. (They have two different lid styles.) We still use them, but they like the straws when we are outside and such (no lids usually in the kitchen).

For their lunch and trips we use a Thermos brand thermos with a flip top lid. (I think these just protect the straw a bit better from germs and they are spill proff when the lid is closed.) These also make sure drinks stay cold.

We are a big H2O drinking family, so a resuable water bottle with a sport lid is usually around too.

Wow... just wow! I can't believe you would assume that based on my original post and frankly your assumption is very far from the truth. You make it sound like having a child with delays is a bad thing. :(

He's a spirited kid and has a tendancy to spill ALL things. That's it. Cups are supposed to stay on the table, but things happen. I also have a 2 year old in the house. He does go to preschool and does fine with his drinks there but I'm concerned with MY house. He does fine with sports bottles - we picked up several of the steel bottles at Old Navy last year but I prefer those to be water only...don't like the idea of cleaning milk out of the mouthpiece.

The kids are familiar with the Take N Toss cups. I'll check out the ones at Target and see if those will work. I'll also take another good look at the Tupperware too.
