JANUARY 2025 W.I.S.H. THREAD, NEW YEAR, NEW BEGINNINGS

Oooh, that is a good one!!

And it leads right into a Topic Tuesday as well:

When have you had to "re-draw your map" for exercise or healthy eating? What brought on the change (age, a move, kids, new job, the pandemic...) and how did you adapt and adjust?

Hi Everyone! I hope you all had a great holiday and New Years! It was good for us just busy. We moved DH's grandmother to an assisted living facility on December 23rd. This ended up being a lot more than I thought it would. There was a lot of miscommunication that was going on since everything was done so last minute. She is all settled and doing well. Her memory is declining fast though. She is moving on her own now using a walking. We visited her yesterday and was so shocked on how well she is moving.

I was finally able to talk DH and his mom into have Christmas, so I cooked on the 24th for his family. I am so glad we still had it. It was a nice day though busy trying to clean and cook. We only did the basic cleaning since there was no time to get a good cleaning done. We went to my mom's on Christmas day and then my dads the Saturday after.

I spent the week of New Year's just resting. I needed it after the business of Christmas week. I was also in a lot of pain. Jazzercise seemed to aggravate my bursitis in my hip and some days were just horrible for the pain. I took a lot of advil over the 2 weeks and used the heating pad a lot. I ended up leaving my dads early because the pain was just so bad. I have since seen the doctor and got a shot of cortisone and doing much better. He did sideline me for 2 weeks from exercise other then the PT ones he gave me for my back/hip. This Saturday I can finally go back but I need to ease into it and do the low impact side of the moves for a bit. I am so excited to get back.

After being off of work for 2 weeks I was back at it last week. It was a busy week just because I was catching up on things but I am back to my normal now.

We are still waiting for DD to get approved for the antibody replacement therapy. It sounds like the doctor will have a peer to peer review with the insurance company tomorrow. So hopefully they will approve it. Since getting her diagnosis we have been trying to be careful and not bring stuff home. I have gotten back to when COVID hit and I feel like I always have gems on my hands so I have been washing and using hand sanitizer a lot. My hands are so dry.

I wasn't able to go back and everything as there was a lot I missed. I will be back on more regular now.

I just recently drew out a new food and exercise map... again. There were a couple things that got me going: my body was finally saying "no more sugar" and when I saw the pictures from our Christmas hike at the cabin, I didn't like what I saw. At all. And I couldn't hike as much as I would have liked either.

At this point I'm both feeling better and not feeling better. I've been suspecting I was dealing with IBS and yesterday when I searched one of the things going on - feeling both full and hungry at the same time - sure enough Dr Google said "IBS". I'm not at all surprised my system is so out of whack as I was living on sugar for most of last year and packing on the pounds. So, I'm adding support for that into my routine and hope to get it turned around soon.

Topic Tuesday ~

The last time I really had to "set" a new exercise routine was in 2020. When school went remote and subs were laid off, I went from being naturally on my feet for a lot of the day, to not having to be very active at all. We ended up getting a treadmill, and I established a walking routine by reserving a show I really wanted to watch for playing on the iPad while I walked.

It worked (and I don't have to be as strict with the show now that I know how good I feel when I walk.) I try to keep it at least almost daily, even if it's a really short amount of time on a particular day, because another thing I learned during the pandemic is how dependent I am on routines!

Woohoo... it is foggy this morning, which bring on a quiet stillness like snow does.

Woohoo... at 5:15p yesterday it was not yet pitch black.

Woohoo... the weight is slowly coming off.

And woohoo... finally got around to looking in to canceling my March WDW trip and I do get a full refund on the seat upgrade I paid for, I knew the miles would go back into my account wasn't sure about the seats. Now I just have to decide where to go.

I am woohooing that I get back to being more active. I am really excited to get back to Jazzercise. But I also needed something as it is too cold to be outside here. We have been in the negatives with the wind chill the last couple of days ad they are predicting -20's a day or 2 next week. Not looking forward to this.

I am also woohooing that I didn't hurt myself last week when I tripped and fell. On Thursday when I was in the office I walked across the atrium in our building to get a snack before a meeting. In the atrium there are holes in the ground that they put plants, however there are no plants right now, just holes in the ground. I wasn't looking down at the ground and fell in the hole. My left foot was slightling on the floor but the rest was not and I fell forward. Thankfully I didn't break my ankle and walked away with a pretty big bruise on my shin and a sore right wrist. I fell on the palms of my hands. Someone else did the same thing after me. Our receptionist called the building and their is now something up so you can see it.

This week is getting away from me…

We are in the midst of standardized testing which couldn’t be more developmentally inappropriate for kindergartners. They are timed and online. My high flyers are even struggling. I’m about halfway through, and if the stars are aligned, I should be able to conquer a large portion this morning.

I’m down 4 pounds since January 2nd. I definitely need to avoid takeout because just one night of Chinese took three days to get off. If I can prepare all meals myself for now, I’ll keep making progress.

I am thankful to have the option to take the train to work. Today is our in office day and we have snow. Of course it started a little after 6. Roads are horrible. I had DH drop me off at the train, that only takes about 10 minutes to get to, so DD can take the SUV to work since it is better in the snow.

Today I am thankful for happy kitties. We cuddle all the time, but I've been remiss about actually playing with them up until the past few days, when I've gotten their stick-and-feather toy out for 15 minutes or so. What a difference it is making in their contentment.

I am also thankful for every minute of day light that is getting added back on to our days. We even had blue skies during the day yesterday.

Thankful for that as well!

And for a successful science experiment with the kids I babysit. (She got a "tornado tube" in her Christmas stocking, and we made it work with two plastic bottles.) It was neat!

I’m grateful for the support I got from my colleagues in making further progress in standardized testing especially for my students who have special needs.

I’m grateful for DH picking up a rotisserie chicken for dinner tonight, and I’m especially grateful that when he bought himself a Paczki, he didn’t get an entire box of them.
