I think her character is most like me - a SAHM - but I don't think they show any good sides to being a SAHM - like tonight how she hated the gifts they give her - doesn't your heart melt when your little ones give you something they made - no matter what it is?

I just wish that they would show the upside to being a mom - I can only think of one time in the whole series when she acted like she loved her boys!

My problem is with the baby, sometimes there, sometimes not. Like no where to be seen for WEEKS. Then today around. For a while she had 3 kids older kids, then only the twins, now back to the 3 boys. What is with that?

The problem is she is someone who isn't really cut out for being a SAHM, she would be much better off working. Being a SAHM isn't for everyone, it is tough work! ;)

Also her kids are old enough to spell and write, but she never gets a break from them. Hello school. I get 6 hours a week of preschool and I live for that!

I was rather annoyed at Susan for the whole "I don't know how I ever survied the baby days thing." :rolleyes1

Actually I find her comforting--it's nice to see a protrayal of the not-so-sunny side of motherhood. Sometimes it's a bit exaggerated, but I think it's more true than not.

Also, call me unsentimental, but unfortunately not every glitter, macaroni, and paste creation makes me melt. I'm kind of reaching my upper limit :rolleyes1

Lynette has tried to get her hubby to stay at home with the boys so that she could return to work. I thought the episode when she had her mom meltdown was really great. It showed that we all loose it at times although not may admit it.

And without getting flamed - I'd loose it a lot more often if I had her boys to deal with. They really do seem to be hell on wheels.

It was said tonight that they are 5 and 6 (the twins), so they really are old enough to be in school - past preschool age. :confused3

Yes! I agree with you! Showing the positive of being a SAHM would be nice for one episode! And I happen to LOVE every picture, craft, & card that my little one's put their hearts into for me. Nothing is more genuine than what comes from the heart of your child.

Ok, I don't know how the big red lines got in my sig, but I tried changeing it a few weeks ago so it wasn't so many lines (take out the spaces) and it didn't change.

julia & nicks mom since you have the note about sigs on yours I will post it here.

Sorry, tried to change it stuck now. Asked hubby to help (he set it up) but he is too busy lately and I have barely seen him.

I stopped watching the show, how couold she have had the job she had and not be able to control her children? Plus Susan just made me crazy, haven't women gotten smarter than that. After about 3 weeks I just couldn't watch it anymore.

I think the show is for ridiculously funny outrageous things to happen. If it showed the joy of being a SAHM then it would just be another Brady Bunch. Don't get me wrong I would DEFINATLY love to see more of the wonderful points of being a SAHM (I am one!!) But not on this particular show, I like it the way it is, CRAZY!

Lynette's my favorite character, and I share some of the same frustrations of being a stay at home mom. My 4 year old exhibits some of the same characteristics as her boys. I don't know what I'd do if I had 3 of him! I realize they don't show all sides of motherhood. Afterall, the show is a satire. I was a little bit bothered when she hired a nanny even though she wasn't returning to work. I could see hiring a professional cook, maid, organizer, and, my personal Desperate Housewife favorite, a gardener;)

That is what I did, it never changed.

If I'm not mistaken--the show is called "Desparate" housewives...I don't really take offense to anything...Brie is a SAHM isn't she--she's the epitomy of "perfection"...another "extreme" side of SAHM-hood.

I will be homeschooling and I'm more offended by my friends who say they just need a "break" and can't wait until there kids are in school. It is possible for you to follow your heart but have it not be an easy road. Lynette has all the heart, but it is a struggle for some. Doesn't necessarily mean she needs to be relegated to working motherhood if that isn't her choice.

I assume the kids are in school b/c she does hang out with the other women in the mornings some time. And as far as the kids only popping up every now and then--child labor laws they have to work around and the kids are in when they lend to the story line. Irks me too....I remember the show "Boy Meets World" when the sister got older and appeared more often in the show--she would not be on for months at a time when she was younger. They had a running gag about how she disappeared for a long time.

I'm not too sentimental with my kids gifts--I do the gushies, and hang stuff, but aside from a few select items, a lot has ended up in the trash can. I think their art work is great though.

It's more funny that I've caught on that they make or have us purchase items they really want disquised as "oh no, they'll really like it". My Christmas gift--a movie my kids wanted for themselves but said "oh no, this is mommy's favorite movie" LOL--hubby hasn't caught on to the trick just yet.

Maybe at some point ABC will do one of those guest appearance shows: Desperate Housewives meets Supernanny :teeth:.

After you removed the excess lines of text, did you save the changes?

I tried it agian, it just won't let me save it for some reason.

I will give it another try.

Back to DHW,

Lynette is someone who likes the idea of being a SAHM, but not the reality. There is nothing wrong with being a working mom if that is what is best for you. ( I did both for, worked for a while, stay home currenlty.)

The point is the writters change her situation too much to fit the story line.

Like the time she was driving in the car. From the outside of the car it was a mini van. From the inside it was a normal car. Come producers, this is a big show get it right!

I totally agree. I am a SAHM also and that character has annoyed me from the beginning. I can't stand how they portray the role of SAHM in such turmoil and frenzy. BUT, I have come to the conclusion that it is TV and the show is called DESPERATE...., so her character has to show some desperation and those are the parts the producers want us to see.

I just got that in the last hour - the mods must be checking right now - I have had my sig for a while but I guess my pic files are too big -working that out on shutterfly right now - I think you have too many lines in your sig - try putting them two to a line - maybe that will work.

Ok, I changed it and saved it lets try it again!

But to get back to the topic, yes I do think it makes being a SAHM look a lot wrose then it is. ;) It does stress the point that being a SAHM can be a huge adjustment from your life before kids.

Let's hope this works in changing my sig! :cheer2:

I think it is important to remember that it is a TV show.

Brie is a SAHM and I certainly don't know anyone that is that obsessive compulsive.

How about Gabrielle! How many married women that stay at home without kids are doing their 16 year old lawn boy?

If the characters weren't greatly exagerated, it wouldn't be as funny.

Lisa

Don't get me wrong - I LOVE this show - it is just sometimes I watch and think - this is why people think no one could enjoy being a SAHM!

Maybe I was so mad b/c tonight my DH told FIL that he was tired b/c he got up with Julia at 5:30 this morning and his response to me was - since he works a full time job during the week shouldn't you be getting up in the middle of the night - oh - he got an earful!!!!
