Is 3 days at Magic Kingdom too many?

Hi guys - We are heading to Disney World for 5 days in the fall. It's my first time going! :)

Our family has three small children(all under 5 years old). We know that we want to spend at least 2 days at Magic Kingdom. We also want to spend 1 day at Epcot and 1 day at Animal Kingdom... So we are debating where to spend our last day. If we do decide to go to MK for a third day, is that overkill? We want to go to a place where our 3 little ones will have lots to see and do. Epcot is huge and I'm sure we could easily spend another day there, but MK seems to be more geared towards smaller children.

Thoughts?

I am going for 6 days and will be at MK 3 days and maybe some half days but I go often and I have almost done every thing at disney and I just really like MK the best.

do you have park hoppers if so I would do hollywood studo half a day there are some thing they might really enjoy like the frozen sing along and there is something else for little ones there too and TSMM is fun. I would do HS first then AK since it has a new night time show.

also there might not be that much at EPCOT for the younger kids to do, unless they really take to the world show case and the things to do there, and do not forget about the night time show at EPCOT it is great.

No.

We are going in three week for 8 days and will be doing 8 MK days. Frankly that's where our 6 and 4 year olds would be happiest. Why waste time at sub-par parks when MK has everything the kids really want to do?

It's not that the other 3 parks are "bad"...it's just that they don't measure up to Magic Kingdom. When you think about going to WDW you think of Magic Kingdom. You don't think of walking up to the disco ball at Epcot, you think about walking up to the castle at MK.

You don't think about riding the triceratop spin, you think about riding Dumbo.

You don't think about riding that train to Rafiki's petting zoo, you think about riding the MK train.

You don't imagine yourself watching the France movie, you imagine yourself watching Philharmagic.

Your memory is not of riding the Donald Duck boat ride in Mexico, your memory is of riding Pirates of the Caribbean.

Do I need to go on?

We did a whole week at MK once other than one quick trip to Epcot one evening and two waterpark mornings. It was great.

There is no such thing as too many days at MK! There is so much to do there. It is the park we visit the most on each trip. I don't normally do full open-close days, but we love mornings and evenings there, so we go back to MK a lot on our trips.. there is just so much to see and do there.

3 Days at MK is great and preferred over two days anywhere else, but don't skip out on all that HS has a lot to offer little ones! My kids love Toy Story Midway Mania, Disney Jr. Live show, The Voyage of the Little Mermaid, Frozen Sing-A-Long, Beauty and the Beast Live show, and the Indiana Jones Stunt Show. Hopefully the new Storm Trooper parade will make up for the loss of the Lights Motor Action Stunt Show this summer! We have seen Fantasmic! many times and highly recommend it, as long as your kids aren't scared of the villains. It is nice that everyone sits down, so it's easy for little ones to see. Don't forget the Star Wars Fireworks and some of the best street entertainment at Disney. The park is smaller (literally=less walking) but still has some great things for little ones. Please check it out for at least half a day!

This trip, being your first, and your kids so very young..... Absolutely do 3 days at MK. AK would be my next choice for your little ones. ( warning... Bugs Life is too loud, dark, and scary for many young kids.). Remember, you aren't going to be able to do it all in one vacation. Your kids are young for park hopping, so I wouldn't suggest that. You can always save HS for a future trip when Star Wars Land is complete. Enjoy!

On our last trip we decided that we need 3 days in MK to really do and see everything we want to, so I think 3 days is perfect!

Also, don't forget the perks at the Baby and Child Care center. It's wonderful. The last time we stopped in was when my then 8 year old was hot and overwhelmed. We rested in the Child Care Center for about 30 minutes and she was ready to get back to the park. Have a great trip!

Well, I definintely agree that you can't overdo MK, I DO disagree with discouraging the other parks entirely.

Some of the specific examples you give struck me because they're perfectly opposite of my family's experience. 2 of my 3 kids listed "Epcot Ball" as their favorite ride (?!?) after their first trips at age 3.

While it's not about Triceratop spin, we did spend more time at the Boneyard play area than any other single place in all of WDW, with frequent breaks to hop on triceratops and go back into the boneyard again.

AND we all have very fond memories of the Donald boat ride - possibly because it's dark and cool in an otherwise sunny, hot Epcot, but we enjoyed the market place and everyone remembers trying on sombreros there after the ride even years later.

Again - I agree that 3 days at MK is not too many, but I wouldn't go so far as to say there won't be equally fond - or even more striking! - experiences at the other parks OP has chosen. I don't think they feel "second best" at all.

Not at all :) When we went we spent 3 days at MK (one day in Adventure/Frontierland, one day in FantasyLand/Tomorrowland, and one just doing the other things we wanted to do). Then we spent 2 at AK, 1 at HS and 1 at EP

Magic Kingdom definitely has the widest range of stuff for small kids, but a lot of it depends on what your children like. For example, Magic Kingdom has a lot of princess-related stuff, and probably the largest proportion of rides related to old movies. If your kids aren't into the older Disney movies or princesses, you may well still want to spend two days there, but three might be overkill.

Epcot has some great stuff for small children without venturing too deep into the World Showcase. My daughter was 4 years old the first time we took her, and she loved Soarin', Living with the Land (the boat ride), Imagination, and the Nemo ride, aquarium, and Turtle Talk show at The Seas. (We also did the Lion King movie in The Land, but she was bored silly). The benefit of those is that they're all clustered together so you can hit them in pretty quick succession.

Additionally, the Donald/Three Caballeros ride in Mexico is a consistent hit. We've done it at least 2-3 times on each of our three trips (when she was 4, 5, and 6). I'm sure the Frozen ride will be drawing huge crowds when it opens. Nice thing here is that Mexico and Norway are right at the entrance of the World Showcase, so you can still do it pretty quickly. For two of our trips, we schehduled lunch in the World Showcase, so we were basically done with Epcot (at least the best stuff for kids) by 2 or 3, which is still early enough for a few hours in the Magic Kingdom.

Hollywood Studios has, for my money, the best night-time show in Fantasmic. My daughter loved it all three times and talks about it consistently. Toy Story Mania is always popular (as the long lines will attest), and depending on what your kids like there are any number of attractions that might be a hit: Star Tours, the Beauty & the Beast stage show, the Ariel show, the Disney Junior show, Muppets 3D... Many of them are a little dated, but if you're kids like them, they'll probably love the attractions. If they're fans of the newer Disney Junior shows (Sophia, Jake, Doc MacStuffins) consider a character lunch where you can meet them all! (Plus stalwart Handy Manny, for now).

Animal Kingdom has two great shows in the Festival of the Lion King and Finding Nemo, and you could practically spend half a day just trying to time them and the Safari. The Safari Meet & Greet for Mickey and Minnie is probably one of the shortest lines to meet the two of them (although you'll still wait a while), but if your kids like other Disney characters, the Tusker House meet and greet meal is a winner (I think it's usually Mickey, Donald, Daisy, and Goofy, although I might be misremembering). For braver kids, the Bug's Life show is pretty impressive, but it might be pretty scary for little ones. We've never let loose in the Boneyard, but if your kids want to get dirty and play in the sand, this is the place! We've always been done with Animal Kingdom mid-day, but now that it's becoming a night-time park, too, that may change,

In most cases, though, if you're looking at stuff for little kids, the non-Magic Kingdom parks may not be full-day parks. We've used that to our advantage in the past to park-hop or to have an afternoon at the hotel's swimming pool.

Basically, I feel like you can't spend too much time in the Magic Kingdom, but don't overlook the charms of the other parks either.

I agree that this is a great way to do it. Magic Kingdom can seem too big and sprawling if you're not used to it, but targeting a land or two a day is a very good way to go. I almost makes it feel like you're going to completely different parks, and has the major advantage of minimizing walking and travel time if you cluster your activities together.

We have 2 boys under 6. We always take 3 days @ MK. We split up the park in thirds... Adventureland/Frontierland, Liberty Square/Fantasyland, and Tomorrowland/Main Street/Favs. I think it would be v difficult for us- with afternoon breaks- to do less than 3 days at MK.

3 days is not too much! I'm sure there will be things you didn't do the first two days you'll want to do as well as favorites. I always like to do MK on one of my last days as a way of saying "See ya real soon!"
