Incentives and new pricing winter/spring 2025

If they do another special firesale with actually decent prices (like they did for OKW last year) for somewhere like AKV or BLT I could be convinced to flip my resale there for direct points. I just don't see it happening anywhere other than OKW. They get to flip the 2042 ROFR contracts to 2057 direct every time they do that and it's quite unique

I thought about having Disney divide it up into four contracts ($250 extra for each additional contract) and then selling off 3 x 250pts. I think I would've broken even--or pretty close--with one remaining 250pt contract that I kept at around $95 per point. But it would've been a huge hassle. I sorta suspect some people did do that though.

I divided them up so I could divide them amongst my 4 kids - that's going to happen in the next 10 years which will leave me without the OKWe SAP (but also without their dues, so that's something). I'll be watching for the next crazy deal, and I have no idea what property that would/could be. AKL and BLT seem like good candidates though. I certainly didn't see the OKWe firesale coming before it did (did anyone predict VGF before that firesale?), and so I expect to be equally shocked if/when another fire sale happens.

Slightly OT, but I’m fascinated to know how DVC points are valued for lifetime T&E/gift tax exemption. I would think at 250 points you’re going to be above the annual exemption, but maybe not if both parent and child generation are married?

Yeah I think its current value as well.

Personally I look at the gift tax exclusion as something to not really worry about.... As I understand it if you go over the annual limit, you can just file a tax form which will reduce your lifetime limit... Which is like 13 million... Double that if you are married...

Altho, it would be fun to have to worry about going over 13 million:).... Hehe...

Good Luck!

So at its resale cost, not what it would cost to buy it from Disney?
I would guess appraised value (not replacement cost) at date of transfer.

OKWe… Maybe $125pp x 250 points = $31,250 conservatively.

$19k annual gifting exemption per spouse if they gift jointly. So under $38k should be fine.

Please consult with your tax professional.

I think the next round will be about the same in terms of incentives. Now the summer incentives might be better depending on how sales do in the next 4-6 months.
As solo traveler (Disney spinster? :upsidedow) deep in their DVC homework, has it been a historical trend that summer incentives are better than other times of year? I’m thinking of starting with resale points at AKV-J but a direct contract—possibly at RIV—would come after. Yes, I’m anticipating eventual add-on-itis :hyper: (and would want to occasionally book a 1bd over studio).

I have only been a member for a little over a year but if memory serves last year’s spring incentives for RIV were slightly better than summer.

Summer was the same as spring for RIV but added in the extra $1K Disney Visa deal. We rewrote our contract to include this extra savings.

Spring had the amazing OKW fire sale (at higher point tiers in particular) and the summer sold out direct resort offerings were so-so.

Ah that’s right - maybe I’m remembering the levels being differently. Feel like 250 pts was the sweet spot for RIV in the spring incentives.

100%. I'm actually somewhat kicking myself for buying 100 BLT resale and then only 153 Riviera. If we had held on for the Riviera 250 point level, we'd have all direct points (which we are now realizing we really value), and it wouldn't have been much more money. We would have only had the new buyer incentives, but those were pretty good, too.

We may actually sell our 100 pointer BLT to swap it out for direct points, but that is a costly first timer mistake. (Or perhaps just adding on more direct entirely...we'll see where the economy goes this year.)

Many people are probably good with only 150 direct or resale only, but we just had an absolutely fantastic Cabin stay and my son is begging to stay there again, we live local to VDH, and own at Riviera. Having more direct points would be hugely beneficial for us.

Ah, thanks for the info! And the follow up posts look like 250 would be the sweet spot for incentives. But I’ll check out those thread links posted above!
