I love credit cards so much! v7.0 - 2025 (see first page for add'l details)

Damn, I need to catch back up. I've got 17 more pages to read! I did find out some possible "good news". My son got hurt playing for an elite tournament team in the fall. Looks like he's going to need shoulder surgery. To be part of that team you have to be a USA Hockey member. USA hockey has secondary insurance for injuries that happen at games. I filled out the form, and attached the video of my son getting hit. My deductible is $1k, but co-insurance is $900, and USA will start paying after my first $1k. But this injury is spanning 2024 and 2025 deductibles. So I should get some money back! All these medical bills are helping me hit all these spends, LOL. So it'll be nice if someone else is sending me some money towards them!

We always downgrade to original freedom’s so that I have more 5x categories spending opportunities and if warehouses are an option like one year I can use it at Costco.

As far as PP I have two accounts but both of mine are active. I’m not sure if you can use your existing one as it has an account # on it. Venture X is annoying as PP is only valid for one year where I think the CSR one is good for 3 years before they send another card.
It good every year though, right? You just have to get a new card? Otherwise I might be back to the CSR, LOL. I went w/ the CFU. I have the OG freedom , and I don't max out the 5% on it.

Now back to reading.

Before I forget (only 11 more pages to read)....

Has Chase been playing nicer lately? I'm thinking of getting the IHG new elevated offer. I was denied the IHG Biz I think back in the fall. I have CSP, CFF, CFU, OG CF, CIP, 2 CIUs, 1 CIC. I'll likely close the CIU that's over a year. And I'll double check all my CL before I apply. But just checking if people are still getting denied. I'm at 3/24 right now (oldest drops in 8/25) so I'm okay adding another personal card I think.

If going for a business card I would recommend closing any that are over 1 year old, there are reports here recently of people getting approved with 2 business cards open and 1 with 3

For personal I believe the total credit Chase has extended to you is more important than number of cards, but if you aren’t using them and they are over a year old you could close.

I just SM'd to close my CIU that is over a year. So I'll have 3 biz cards. I can't close 2 of them since they are still under a year, LOL. I added up my CL and I'm at $43k, which is less than 50%. I could lower my CFU (which had my CSR CL limit). Maybe I'll lower some of my other freedom card limits.

Booking on Southwest Airlines question for the experts

I would like to book (cash) flights but there's a chance we may have to change them. I never change a flight once I book it so I have zero experience with that.

I know Southwest makes it relatively easy... is it super duper easy? And if I have to cancel them outright, I believe they give me credit toward a future flight; is that accurate? I don't want to miss out on the fares, but I also don't want a headache if something changes after I've booked.

Thank you!

I think it was this board where capitol one shopping rewards were mentioned. I did a bunch of shopping thru it, don't have apitol one cc, and have accrued a few hundred pending dollars. before I use it more (some great offers) I can't tell if it's esy and worth it to cash out for gift cards. any pitfalls?

thanks

We fly SW a lot…it is super duper easy to change, and if you need to cancel they give each person a travel credit that never expires

Haven't really told anyone IRL but DH got laid off yesterday. 3 weeks severance at a job he had for 25 years. Kind of in panic mode. Even though I have a good job, our health insurance was through his company (and sadly my healthcare job has worse, more expensive insurance.)
Trying to cut all the corners and make plans and will be canceling any cc with an AF in the next few months. My CSR will be due in Feb/March. TC has reset, so I'm looking to use it. We have Yellowstone booked in June and car rental thru AutoSlash for $395, can still book for $399 today. I plan on cancelling the original booking and rebooking. Have never used AutoSlash before, so someone reassure me the cancellation will refund me quickly and easily.

Agree with Judique - my Marriott personal Bonvoy posts right at account anniversary, Amex takes much longer. When I cancelled and reapplied for a Marriott card in 2023 I did it in August (my Amex anniversary is June) so I would have the 2 free nights both by Sept 1.
Thanks to you and @Judique.

I am definitely going the Chase Route as I hope to product change to the Ritz card after a year to stay at JW or Swan Reserve before switching to DVC

Looks like this promotion won't work for me at the current time as when I need to use the FNC is late March or Early April and according to the email I received the offer expires on 3/5/25.

Looks like I need to Apply in May so that I have the best chance at securing a room with the FNC during that time period.

Sorry to hear the news.

Do you fly SW? You could book an anytime fare for $300 and then get it refunded as a credit for later use.

Yes it is good every year just a hassle to have a new card every year where as the CSR PP is good for 3 years.

Seriously (for the first time) considering applying for the Amex Plat if I can get the 175K offer... but first, a question about the ease of using the credits.
I am not likely to use all of them, but these interest me:

-The AMEX Global Lounge- does this mean that with the card I'd be able to visit any listed Amex Lounge when I'm in an airport? Does it matter if I'm coming/going, what airline I'm flying on, anything like that?

-Uber Cash: Is this easy to use? I don't use Uber Eats now, but I would if it weren't so expensive or if I could get it for 'free'. I do occasionally take Ubers when I am traveling, but usually only when I have gone somewhere for work, and work pays for it.

Things I will likely NOT use:

-Probably not going to ever book a "Fine Hotel or Resort" or the "Hotel Collection."
-Don't anticipate being able to use the Digital Entertainment Credit (we already pay for Disney Plus as an almost no-cost add on to our Verizon plan).

I THOUGHT I had seen an airline incidental credit on the terms of the application, but when I just look at the benefits/info page, I don't see anything about that. I don't fly a ton, and I generally try not to check a bag if I could help it, but I'd happily pay on legacy carriers (which I fly sometimes for work) for an upgraded seat if I could get it credited back!

I appreciate all the answers to my questions lately! The ihg chase card has an elevated bonus - my P2 had the traveler card and got the bonus 20 months ago. Is he eligible to get the bonus if he applies for the premier card or no? Thank you!

Ugh, NVM, I think I found the info online he's not eligible. One month too late!

Did he try to negotiate additional severance best on his tenure? Because that's ridiculous. So very sorry you're dealing with this.

So sorry this happened…second the suggestion to book a refundable airfare..wait for the credit to post and then cancel to the cc, we may be in a similar situation in a few months/within a year DH company is being acquired, he keeps telling me he’s fine but I think it’s only because he wants to go on vacation :crazy2: . We are older he’s turning 65 but was planning on working for a while….
