How to get sticky stuff off skin

My son was in the hospital the other day and had several patches on his chest that were hooked to wires of some sort. The patches left a sticky goo on his skin. How do I get that off? I tried rubbing alcohol and it didn't help a bit. Any other ideas or do I just need to wait for it to wear off?

Goo gone!!! That's what we use to get that nasty tree sap off our hands after we put up our christmas tree. Then you use soap and water to get the goo gone off. If you don't have that, try cooking oil, that has worked for us in the past.

When I had nasties on my head from an EEG, they came off after slathering on conditioner. Might be worth a try if you use the cheap stuff or some old hotel bottles around-might be more gentle than goo gone.

Rub a generous amount of body lotion on the patches, let it soak in, then rub off with a washcloth. If you have baby oil, it would probably work really well.

Is your son ok? :goodvibes :goodvibes

Baby Oil might work. Also, nail polish remover might work as well. It depends on the particular type of adhesive.

I'm sure some of our DIS nurses will check in soon with some tried and true solutions as well.

Not too sure, but I hope your son is OK.

I have goo gone, but I'm not to sure about using that on skin. I don't have baby oil, but I have tons of conditioner. I'll try that next.

Yes, my son's ok. The little one got his finger caught in the door and it severed the tip of his pinky. They sewed it back on and it's healing nicely. He's not bothered a bit by it and it hasn't slowed him down at all.

Avon's Skin so Soft.... it works just like goo gone...

Yikes! :bitelip: :bitelip: Never a dull moment! :bitelip: :bitelip: Glad he is doing ok. If they're running around, then all must be well. :teeth: :teeth:

I am a firm believer in orange spray. It is called Citrus Air or something like that. Not sure what the "official" name of the stuff is, but it is sold as an air freshener, and sometimes in the automotive department of all places. It has a pump sprayer, not an aerosol. Spray a little of this on, rub it in (I have used it on skin and it's perfectly safe) and it will remove ANY sticky stuff. It's also great for removing price tag or sticker residue. And as an added bonus, it smells really nice!

Next time, ask at the hospital. We have little packets of stuff that works...if you use a lot of it. :)

I'd use Goo Gone...skin isn't recommended, but if you are careful to wash the stuff off, there is no chance of it coming in contact with flames and burning your son.

Or you could just wait it out. :)

Good luck!

Try peanut butter. Works like a charm on gum in the hair and on clothes. I would imagine it would work on this too. Couldn't hurt to try anyway.

This is what I always used for bandiad residue. Works great and not harsh on the skin.

I just checked on my little packets I got from the hospital. They say its mineral oil.

When I had the tape on me, I was given Medi-Sol Adhesive Remover.

The ingredients: technical grade white mineral oil, oranage oils, lanolin, aloe vera.

My doc suggested fingernail polish remover. It took the goo off like a charm.

I use baby oil to loosen bandaids though.

Hope you find something that works.

I used baby oil when I had surgery. However, it still took me days/weeks to get it all off - especially in areas that were near the surgical site and I had to be careful. I still had a little residue at my two week check up and I felt silly about it and was apologizing. The nurse said many people come in with tons of it still left and not to worry about it.
