how old is too old for an umbrella stroller?

It really goes by wieght and hight. My dd has just turned three and umbrella strollers are getting small. I bought a really cheap one and she is ripping the material even though she is 30 lbs. I just bought peg plinko and that stroller is big enough for a 5 year old. My 5 year old is on the small side and wouldn't fit in an umbrella stroller he would he hard to push in one too.

It really is by weight and not age for the umbrella strollers. Most umbrella strollers allow a maximum weight of 40-55 lbs. DD5 DID hop in DS2's stroller a few times during our trip to WDW last month. She weighs in the low 40's (small for almost being 6) and was comfortable. I guess if you were looking for an age poll on this matter, I would say 5.

Have a magical trip! :wizard:

We brought a stroller for our 3 1/2 year old and our almost 7 year old fights him for a turn riding. But an umbrella stroller is going to have a low weight limit, if your kids are bigger, you will need something larger and sturdier. (Too bad because they do fold up so nice and compact!)

::yes::
You have to look at the individual umbrella stroller.
Some have a weight limit as low as 35 pounds. That is the total weight on the stroller; not just the child, but any bags, etc that are also on the stroller.
People have posted that they had a wheel pop off after a few days of putting too much weight even on a new stroller. The strollers meant for lighter weight kids often have smaller and less durable wheels. The higher the weight you put on them, the harder they are to push and the greater the chance of a wheel popping off or just breaking.

Some of the umbrella strollers are also going to be too small for a taller child, even if they are not over the weight limit. I've seen people pushing strollers like that where the child's feet kept getting in the way of the wheels - ouch!
