That’s a genuinely staggering number to me. You got me curious at what level could one actually “live” at DVC, but without scouring point charts I’m thinking it’d have to be upwards of 5,200 pts and over $4,000/mo in MFs. Might have to take advantage of the cheap winter months at the beach resorts too.

I would’ve used my (Windows) calculator as well 😅

I'm officially old. I would have pulled out a calculator 🧓

I would have used an abacus. 😀

I did it in my head with estimation and rounding.
It's a gift.

Ignorance is bliss for me when it comes to our DVC points but rough estimate says a little over 100k for all 660 of our points 😭. When buying I just ignore previous purchases and make impulsive decisions :)
It’s crazy how much more points I could have purchased. My points are limited because I bought at $310 a point for grand cal direct.

It's a little bit of a different story if Disneyland is where you like to vacation because of how limited the DVC options are there. It's so worth it though if that's where you like to go.

Fortunately for my wallet I don't see myself purchasing a DL contract in the near future since my family just lives too close to the park for it to be worth it IMO but if they didn't I absolutely would be buying either a VDH/VGC contract.

Based on the 2024 points charts, your estimates are pretty good. Actuals can go a little lower than 5200pts and $4k/mo in dues, but not much (except AKV Value...).

Lowest points Studios:
AKV Value Studio - 3,816pts/yr - $34,657 MF/yr
OKW Studio - 4,901pts/yr - $48,356 MF/yr
BWV SV Studio - 4,970pts/yr - $43,095 MF/yr
SSR SL Studio - 5,306pts/yr - $43,184 MF/yr
AKV SV Studio - 5,345pts/yr - $48,5432 MF/yr
RIV Tower Studio - 5,619pts/yr - $49,733 MF/yr

Lowest points non-Studios:
CFW 1BR Cabin - 7,843pts/yr - $95,325 MF/yr
AKV Value 1BR - 8,202pts/yr - $74,491 MF/yr
BWV SV 1BR - 10,286pts/yr - $89,191 MF/yr
OKW 1BR - 10.318pts/yr - $101,804 MF/yr
AKV SV 1BR - 10,485pts/yr - $95,225 MF/yr
SSR SV 1BR - 10,880pts/yr - $88,550 MF/yr

I'm well below this threshhold, but with 900 Points (pending ROFR on 70 that I am selling) I have racked up total purchase prices of ~ $94.6K (Avg. $105/Point)
My MFs-to-date are around $35K. But, based on comparing our stays to the prevailing discounted rack rates, we have already surpassed the break even point. Now, our annual MFs are around $8K, and we're staying 60-65 nights per year, averaging $145/Night. Based on that, even with escalation on MFs each year, we are saving thousands every year. Now that all the costs-to-date are sunk, where could anybody stay on-property at BWV/SSR/AKV for $145/Night ??

$9450, 150 BWV points resale in 2002. The contract was stripped and the advice I got here at the time was that this was a bad deal because the contract was stripped. We weren't planning on travelling (and didn't) until 2004.

HOWEVER, we are on the low end of Disney fans in terms of this site, have never gone more than every other year, did do alternative Disney vacations in off years when the kids were little (cruising, ABD) and tended to shorter Disney trips. Once the kids got a little older, we switched to different kinds of travel in our off years - and my now adult kids haven't gone since high school - since when they hit high school they had better things to do with their time (like jobs, school, and activities).

Every time we get close to 'breaking even' overall, we somehow end up buying a new contract or two or three:

Every dot is a trip or financial event such as a contract purchase or dues paid (sort of...I pay monthly but only enter them into this spreadsheet as events on January 1st). It includes stays booked through the end of 2024.

In both 2018/2019 and maybe also 2023, I think our already booked trips would have taken us under 100% if we hadn't purchased additional contracts but alas the call of the siren song was too strong.

Nice “burndown” chart 😂
I will now have to plot mine similarly.
