Sorry, I'm late to the exercise club...

I also belong with the I hate to exercise, I've tried everything club, and well...

Today is a new day. I've been reading, and remembered last night I have an old pedometer, so I brushed it off, and it works, because its old!! It's not electric, or battery operated, it doesnt measure steps, just miles.... no biggie, I want to walk a mile every day, that's my goal...

Now I'm reading I need to do 10,000 steps a day for weight loss... ok, so is that right? Anybody have any opinions, information on this? I know the strides vary from person to person, can I take an average of 2500 steps to a mile (I'm on the tall side)?

Any help, or comments are appreciated!
Sandy

I have my pedometer set for 30 inch strides (stand 5'1") and currently I'm at 1.70 miles/3607 steps...that's approximately 2120 steps per mile.

Figure somewhere around 2,000 stpes to the mile give or take. The authors of the Step Diet use that as thier benchmark.

It really really depends on how long your stride is (the measurement of your step from toe to toe or heel to heel). That is the biggest determination of how many steps are in a mile. For example, my stride length is 2.5 feet....so it takes me about 2100 steps until I'm at a mile. But someone else's stride might be 3 feet in which case it'll take them only about 1900 steps to make a mile. And some other person's stride length might be 1.75 feet in which case it takes them about 3000 steps before they hit a mile. So your stride length really is the biggest determination.

I have a chart on Excel that I can email out if anyone wants it...it converts the steps into miles and it's based on stride length (starting at 1 foot and going to 6 feet).
