The hatred toward him is what has so far prevented me from buying a Tesla. I have read so many stories about Tesla owners being abused by people because they hate Elon Musk and Tesla. Either their cars are vandalized or they are targeted on the road by idiots.Well...he's a total tool....but, he makes a hell of a product. I'm definitely someone who has had to put aside my feelings for Musk to find a kind of middle ground in order to purchase his car. I put him a bit in the Steve Jobs category. Jobs was also known to be a real jerk at times. And my house and life are littered with apple products. I have neighbors around the corner who are as liberal as you can possibly be. They're also both on our town's environmental committee. And they were very early adopters of the Tesla S...like one of the first 500 sold. They still have that S, and just got a blue Tesla Y. So, they're able to put up with Musk's shenanigans. I believe that the liberal inhabitants of Silicon Valley have also made a truce of some kind with Musk. From what I understand, you can't swing a dead cat without hitting a Tesla. I feel like it's getting that way in my neck of the woods where the number of Teslas on the road has really gone up.
Don't disagree but that makes no sense when you think about it. Look at Ram Trucks. The development and manufacturing are controlled by a French/Italian conglomerate based in the Netherlands. I doubt those executives share the values of the buyers. You would think those buyers would gravitate towards someone like Musk who shares their beliefs.

Electric is the future and I am happy to drive electric, I just don't want a target on my back put there by judgemental fools.
I see many Teslas here in my area, Chicago, also.the number of Teslas on the road has really gone up.
It is occurring in rural and urban areas.Oh wow...I hadn't heard of that nor have I seen any stories. Nobody has messed with our Tesla....so far at least. Trying to figure out the logic....is it people in cities going after Teslas because Musk moved out of California? Or in suburbs and rural areas because coastal elites are the most likely Tesla buyers? I'm not saying this about you at all kdonnel....but this sounds like a classic...."we need the news people to tell us how to think and who to cancel"....kind of deal.
If you're talking about towing I think it depends on what you plan on towing.I completely agree with you, but I think it's more of the "you'll have to pry that gas pump from my cold dying...." kind of deal. I've also read that a lot of truck owners who tow things say electric trucks will never provide the kind of power they need...etc. I don't know if that's true, but probably not for most of the things truck owners do.
I don't really know what it is, but this non-Musk loving, red-blooded American....will be plugging her cars in for the rest of my life. And I think the more EVs we see on the road, the more likely others will come around.

Google “Tesla vandalism”. There are too many stories for it not to be real. I personally know two people who had vandalism. One had his car peed on, the other her car keyed. Both instances were caught on camera by the Tesla but the police investigations went no where.
Because it all adds up?? I've always thought it was strange when people bring in other things into the picture. So what if someone is going over to chick-fil-A and spends $30? It's still costing them more to fill up to even get to that chick-fil-A even if that amount they spent there was minimal. It's still costing them more to get anywhere and that's the actual argument when talking about gas prices raising not about bringing up all the other spending people are doing. People's discretionary spending all varies but it still impacts us all the gas pricing in one's area.Ive always been somewhat taken a back by how people freak over gas prices. Even if it went up an entire dollar a gallon thats only 20 more than it was before per tank on average. People complain and then drive their oversized SUV straight to chik-fil-a and blow $30 bucks.
This excludes commercial drivers, those who tow, drive huge Rvs, etc.

The amount it adds up to just seems disproportional to all the noise that always occurs IMO.
It sounds like you're just less sympathetic to those with big huge SUVs who spend money frivolously (and I understand that) but it doesn't make the discussion about higher gas pricing any less valid because it's not just the people who fit the description you're talking about affected by it and that seems rather obvious (respectfully speaking). Loudest voices and all I get it but still. Perhaps the ones who are most financially impacted by it are too busy working to try to get that gas money to get to work to complain about it on social media who knows. The amount it adds up to just seems disproportional to all the noise that always occurs IMO.
I compare it to those who will wait in line for a half hour to fill up at the station that is five cents cheaper than across the street. All to save $1.04.

Ahhh yes. My husband.I compare it to those who will wait in line for a half hour to fill up at the station that is five cents cheaper than across the street. All to save $1.04.
Pretty much everyone I know. Lol.Agreed. Who pays $50k for a monster SUV and then complains about $5 gas? That is like buying a $1.5m house and complaining about a $500 electricity bill every month.
This is the guy that praised a sex cult mouthpiece for it's unbiased journalism and called a heroic cave diver a pedo.Musk just likes being in the limelight and says/does a lot of things to draw attention to himself. He strikes me as more of a carnival barker then effective business executive. At times it seems like no one is in charge at Tesla or the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing. Remember when Musk said you could now buy Tesla's with bitcoin?...........then shortly after that changed his mind due to the energy intensive mining process? Or the whole mess with Hertz buying Tesla's as rental cars? Musk recently said no agreement has been signed, but yet Hertz said they plan to pay list price so there wouldn't really need to be any signed contract.
Most Electric cars charge up at night when grid demand is otherwise at its lowest and excess capacity exists.I don't get the Musk-California battle. Okay, he doesn't like California business practices, but California is the only state requiring all new cars sold after 2035 be electric. Of course, since we already don't have enough capacity to produce enough electricity in the summer and have rolling blackouts, not sure where they electricity to charge all those cars is going to come from.
Because one angelic instance of ignoring the safety of your employees and getting into a big spat with officials over it to the point where you take your ball and go to Texas does not make up for years of wickedness producing something as insipid as battery operated cars.LOL - I never understood how some can spout off nonsense about electric cars being some commie plot. Musk is about the exact opposite of that doing battle with California politicians. Wouldn't the conservative elements be cheering him on and lining up to buy Teslas?
