How do you clean microfiber furniture (cheaply)?

We purchased a used microfiber sofa/loveseat set last year. It was in great condition when we bought it from a neighbor. I think they had it for maybe six months or so. Well, after a year with my kiddos (and DH), it looks really bad. I have no idea how to really clean it without having someone come in and do it. I haven't priced it, but I'm sure it would be more than we would want to spend. Has anyone had their microfiber furniture cleaned by a furniture/carpet cleaner and how much did it cost? Anyone clean it themselves and what did you use? :confused3

I've cleaned a loveseat with about 1/8 white vinegar to 7/8 hot water using the attachment on a steam home carpet cleaner. Don't use any soap or professional cleaners, it'll never get all the way rinsed out and the residue will attract more dirt/grime. I usually only use non-sudsy ammonia on carpets and furniture (same ratio), but I was afraid to try it on microfiber.

We have a solid caramel set in our family room and I'm not sure what we were thinking with 3 kids! Ours was scotchguarded when we bought it but might still work. Have you tried just a wet cloth - plain water? We've had some horrible looking spots that just come right out. It looks bad and discolored when you wipe it down but then it just dries good as new. Good luck!

Paper towel and water works very well on mine. I add a little dawn soap for stains (even got out ink from a pen)

I've used dish soap and water on mine with no problem.
Before I bought it, the furniture guy let me take home a swatch and destroy it-- ground in brownie, coffee stains, red wine, mustard, etc. I took a facecloth with water and a little dish soap, and it all came out. That's when I knew I had found a couch we could live with.

Two weeks after we bought it, my niece wrote all over it with red pen-- all came out with soap and water.

I just use the baby wet wipes from Costco. Mine was scotch guarded when we bought it though.

The furniture store we bought ours from gave us a sponge, cleaner and brush...maybe you could check some stores around you to see what they recommend?

Check the tag on it. It should have a cleaning code. (The tag will either be under the cushions if they are removable or under the couch.) It will say either S, W, or a combination. Here is a site you can check what to do:

Basically you don't want to use a water based cleaner on a 's' code.

We clean ours with our carpet cleaner. Light amount of soap, mostly warm water. Never had a problem with it. Rubbing alcohol will get out permanent marker! :D

I had a stain on my light tan microfiber couch and was looking to try the resolve multi-fabric cleaner but couldn't find it anywhere in my area. I had some resolve carpet cleaner for pet stains and figured I would try that and it worked fantastic! I just used it to clean my whole couch. Took out grease, pen and dirt and left the fabric feeling just as soft as before.

Ok so not to steal this thread, but anyone gotten kitten pee out of a microfiber sofa? I told myself when I got it new that I wouldn't worry about it, let it last two years and it was like paying $20 a month to "rent" it.

I used a remover from petsmart but that didn't take it out all the way.

I was really ticked when it happened but what can you do?

(ya, I know he didn't mean to)

We have microfiber furniture in LR and FR. Bought from different stores. Both salesmen said to use water and a white cloth for stains. I use a regular white wash cloth. Water works great, all dirty marks / stains so far have been removed. (I do have dark colors, green and brown). Good luck!

I have ZERO problems with my microfiber couch and loveseat. And my kid has fallen asleep on the couch and peed, and gotten sick and thrown up all over the loveseat....and then of course my toddler smears her greasy graham cracker hands all over both all the time. Everything wipes right off with a damp washcloth or baby wipe! Of course when my daughter had her "bodily fluid" accidents I used a little Resolve upholstery cleaner to make sure the smell is removed. But I lightly mist it on the entire area/cushion and then wipe down with the damp washcloth, so there are no concentrated spots to leave ring marks or anything later. I've had both for almost 2 years now, and they still look fantastic. Not sure why others are having problems....maybe it's the color? We got a medium brown color, almost a caramel or a coffee-with-cream color....

I LOVE my microfiber couch. I bought it two years ago, paid under $500 for it and it looks brand new. We just use a damp cloth and everything has come right out including chocolate syrup!

I have an in home Day Care and when I bought this the salesman said it would be the best thing i could buy. I have a love seat and rocker and they clean up great with water and a little resolve.
