I did a load of wash and someone left an ink pen in their pocket. Well it leaked all over the clothes and the dryer. They are dark clothes, so I can't bleach them. Does anyone have a cheap sure fire way to get the ink stains out of the clothes and the dryer?

I don't know if it's sure fire, but the two methods that generally work for me are rubbing alcohol or hair spray. For the rubbing alcohol, spread the ink stained portion of the clothing against the sink or counter top, then apply the rubbing alcohol. I generally put the rubbing alcohol on a rag (a lot) and then squish it into the stain, then blot with another part of the rag, rinsing periodically in running cold water. This prevents the ink/alcohol mix from spreading all over the garment. For the dryer, I would pour the rubbing alcohol on a rag, and rub, then wash it with warm water...maybe put a few wet rag towels in there. The hair spray is easier, but it doesn't always work--just spray generous amounts on the spot.

I have to say, I don't know if either method will work once the clothes have been through the dryer--the heat might set the ink.

Good Luck!

DH did this a while back and it was on a light colored shirt. If you have already dried the shirt that the stain was on...it may already be baked in...But try this...Take some hairspray (Yes I said hairspray) and spray it on the shirt stain. Hairspray acts as a magnet for the stain. I don't know how, I don't know why...but it works! Rub the stain just like if you were using a stain remover. Before putting it in the wash, try using a stain remover like OxiClean. and then run it in the machine with cold water. You may have to repeat this process a couple of times for the stain to come out. I had to run DH's about 5 times before it was out. Do not run it in the dryer until the stain has been removed.

Good Luck!

But this happened to me a few months ago at a house we were renting and the dryer was brand new. I googled it and tried many things the only remedy that worked for the dryer was rubbing compound. I think we found it at walmart it was 3m rubbing compound and it was in the automotive section cost about $8. It worked great, just need that and alot of elbow grease and your dryer will be like new.

The alcohol in the hairspray (along with some other things) acts as a solvent to remove the ink. Hairspray will even remove Sharpie, although I've had more success with Murphy's oil soap on stains like dry erase marker.

Quick N Brite...one of those "as seen on TV" products...it used to be pushed by the infomercial guy that died a whiel back. I washed and dried an inkpen, of course, it exploded. It took some elbow grease, but Quick N Brite (the pink paste) did the trick.

That would make sense. The first time I ever had to do this I admit I called my mom . When she told me to use Hairspray I sort of looked at her funny, but it worked like a charm!

With 4 kids this seems to happen to me alot. I always use hairspray, even worked on a white shirt.
