Honey Baked Ham Co. - Has anyone every purchased one?

I don't understand your anger here? Of course you have to wait in line - everyone in the line reserved their ham - I don't think that someone is just going to walk on in there on Christmas day and ask for a ham? What would be your solution on how to reserve and NOT wait in line?

Never said I was angry... :confused3

And not everyone in line reserves their ham. It's not required.

Just people who purchase for the first time don't understand HBH reservation reasoning. Here in Dallas they've had to have a police officer stand by the front to make sure fist-fights don't break out because people who reserve a ham think it means they can go straight to the desk and pick their reserved ham up and they don't understand it doesn't work that way.

OMG! I love their ham!
It is very expensive, but it's probably the best ham you will ever have. :)

What you might do to make a decision, is go to the local store (if you have one near you) and get a ham sandwich. Try their ham before buying a whole one.

:)

I have to agree with you. Each year I buy a store bought ham that has a brown sugar coating and is spiral sliced. Last year, my mom decided to buy a Honey Baked Ham and the only difference we noticed was that it had more fat on it. My two teens said they much prefered the store bought one. That is a first for them....wanting a cheaper item over an expensive one! :rotfl:

Count me in the dissenters as well. We had one this year for Easter (got it free as a gift) and while I thought it was very good, it wasn't any different from the one we normally make and it was like what, 5 times more expensive? (and it had a LOT more fat like you said). I can't believe people would wait in lines as long as I've seen for something they can get for so much less, but to each their own! :confused3 Whatever makes you happy! :teeth:

They are excellent. Of course now that we've all hyped you up, you be disappointed. Post again after you feast on one.

Where I live, in Ohio, we call ahead and reserve one, (they just give you a password) when you arrive you get in a line that stretches outside down the sidewalk of the strip mall, and there are at least 2 guards making sure no one steals those precious hams!

You guys are in big trouble if we don't like it :teeth:

I'll post back after we've tried it - thanks for all of your help and Happy Holidays!

I guess we take our HBH seriously in the metroplex. ;)
I see the frustration. It is so stupid for them to basically tell you you are SOL if no reservations and then have to wait in the same (very long) line to get yours in the same line w/ the person w/ no reservation. Very frustrating.
I noticed at Thanskgiving they have not ditched the reservation system. Just all wait in line. Better that way.

My work usually caters a honeybaked ham in for the holiday party. Very good!

Forgot to add:
We paid (my Dad actually) $67.00 for an 11 pound ham.

We have one every year for thanksgiving. I dont like ham but everyone else thinks they are fantastic.

I've had much better luck with the ones from Sam's.

If you buy one from Honey Baked and they ask you "Is this one okay?" be sure you check it out. Twice (in two different states) I just said okay, and the ones foisted off on me were full of gristle and just awful. My fault for not looking at the ham as it was quite obvious when you looked at it.

I usually buy a Heavenly Ham which we love but this year DH's company, he is part owner, has decided to go with Honey Baked. I'm glad to hear all the positive reviews about it as I was worried! They are delivering it to me by messenger on December 23 which means I don't have to wait in line to get it!

At Heavenly Ham there were more people in line that did not reserve a ham. I always reserved my ham and I too think there should have been seperate lines.

I'll be the voice of dissent. I don't get the appeal. I don't think they are any better than your basic supermarket ham if you glaze it yourself. And baking a ham has to be one of the simplest meals one can make. And the Honey Baked Hams are much, much more expensive.

I've tried all the spiral cuts at the grocery store over the years and they don't compare to a Heavenly ham. You can put all the glaze you want on it but nothing beats the sweet crunchy crust of the good hams. Worth every penny.

we get one every year for christmas and have never gotten one with an abundance of fat. i have to say the only side dish i like (and i've tried several-most are realy salty) is the cranberry sauce-it's GREAT! the soup mix they sell to use with the ham bone is very good too.

round here if you don't reserve you run the risk of not getting one-each of the stores only makes so many, and when the norm is over an hour's wait in line the 3 or 4 days before christmas the non reserved ones get snapped up pretty quickly (esp. since they stop taking reservations after a certain point).

Looks like I'm in the minority but I don't care for the hams. If you like to eat your ham cold or at room temperature, then go for it. I'd prefer my ham hot out of the oven. Honeybaked Hams suggest you serve at room temperature and do not heat in the oven. Guess it melts the coating.

It tastes like ham with sugar on it. I mean, ham is ham. There isn't a lot you can do with it that it tastes like something else.

Last Easter we decided at the last minute to get one and just went to the store the day before. I had reserved one on a previous holiday and they didn't give me a reservation number or even ask about it when I went in so I figured what the heck. The stores around here are always really well staffed and I have hardly had any line at all.

I am debating this year. They are darn good but man are they expensive!
