I was wondering if anyone out there that has done the DCL cruise or other cruises and ended their cruise at the Honolulu port how did you get to the airport? We are staying for a few extra days and are renting a car and booked it to pick it up at the Honolulu airport since we then fly out of there a few days later. Did you prebook your ride option? where did you pick up your ride? We are hoping to not have to drag our bags far if possible. Also if my husband went to get the car on his own and I waited for him with the bags are there places where I can wait or is the better option for both of us and bags to go?

Thanks for the help

Hi. I took the Sydney to Honolulu cruise last February. I also booked a rental car at the airport. I was going to take a taxi or uber to the airport to pick up the rental car. We picked up our luggage and outside the building all the taxis were waiting. I wanted to see about an uber but it looked like only taxis were allowed so close to the luggage area. So we took a taxi to the airport and told him to take us to the rental center in the airport. It cost us $35 (I forget if that was the price with/without tip). So not very much walking involved and was easy even with our luggage. So I'm not sure what is involved if you keep walking past the taxis and where to go for other ride options. It just turned out to be very convenient for us to take a taxi. Hope that helps. :flower:

The Aloha Tower (at your pier) has shops and restaurants. It is on a main road that leads to the airport. It’s near the business area of downtown. Not some set-off industrial port - or even Port Canaveral.

I would rather go together than be left there - depending on the time of day, traffic can be slow.

And also your next step in your adventures. If going west to Aulani, or even to head up to the North shore, there would be backtracking. You only have so much time in Paradise.

You are scheduled to arrive at Pier 11.

So iconic Hawaii:

I typed Hertz; pretty much all rental cars are in one big parking lot.

One thing about Hawaii - it’s got that tropic relaxed speed. I have had loyalty lines for car pick-up, but it seems even then it wasn’t so easy - like when you see your name on the board with an assigned car already.

My experience is with fly-in arrivals.

I’ve found lately that it can be easier to just get in the taxi line, where offered. Transportation in Hawaii is not inexpensive - other than The Bus. I’d do what @readyplayer did. Taxi.

We were on the NCL Pride of America last November. There were tons of taxis lined up right outside of where we picked our luggage. I'd say from finding our bags to sitting in the taxi took less than 5 minutes. So easy!

And I agree it's simpler to just stay together rather than your husband having to back track. Enjoy your time in paradise!!

I lived on Oahu for a bit.. I wouldn't have him leave you. Not due to any safety concerns it just could take a good bit. I never cared much for the shopping around Aloha tower.. There is a giant open air shopping mall close by however that is worth checking out if you have time.
