Hello!

My husband and I are taking our son on a surprise trip to Disney World in a couple weeks for his birthday! We can't wait!

I need help with finding foods I can eat on this trip. I'm a vegetarian and have easily found many enjoyable foods to eat during past Disney World trips. But I've had health issues recently and have been put on a low FODMAP diet to hopefully calm my IBS symptoms. Has anyone eaten low FODMAP and vegetarian at Disney World?

Low FODMAP is more confusing to explain than singular dietary restrictions or allergies. For example, I can't have anything containing lactose, but can have cheeses that don't have lactose (cheddar, colby, etc.). I also can't have gluten, onion, garlic, beans and lentils, and a host of fruits and vegetables.

I've been doing research and so far I've discovered these foods I can have:
1. allergy friendly mickey waffles and oatmeal
2. pineapple dole whip
3. popcorn from the carts
4. gluten free pizza at Blaze Pizza
5. vegan ice cream at Haagen Dazs

Any other suggestions? Is there anywhere I can get a baked potato?

Thank you in advance!!

I have family members with food allergies and we pretty much eat at TS. My DH can’t have dairy or any hot spice like black pepper and has to limit salt and my DM has to severely limit salt and pretty much eats the same way he does but has to limit what fruit and veggies she has because of medicine she is on. We can eat at almost any TS including buffets like Boma and AYCTE like Liberty Tree Tavern.

Sorry, i don't have a great answer to your question but I'm a little confused by your post. I'm a dietitian and the FODMAP diet is NOT a long term diet. It's used for a very short period of time, usually 2 weeks no more than 4 to "rest" your GI system Then you introduce a new food group every couple of days so you can figure out which one of the 5 most common food intolerances affect you. The Monash university website has lots of information. You may already be able to eliminate one of the groups, like if I have someone that drinks milk all of the time and doesn't have issues then we don't even eliminate that group. My whole point is, you probably don't need to be as strict as you think and you should be able to add back in items by the time you go on vacation.

Thank you for your response! I really appreciate it. I started the low FODMAP plan less than a week ago. I was told 2-6 weeks for the elimination phase before starting to test out adding in foods again. I'll be in weeks 3 and 4 of the elimination phase during our trip and I was thinking I'd start adding items back in after vacation.

Starbucks orders are easy to customize so they might have drinks that could work for your diet. Potatoes can be microwaved at the resort. Maybe pack some with a microwaveable bowl? Are you staying somewhere that has a fridge or kitchenette?

That's quite the compilation, I'd suggest watching some Princess and the Bear videos on youtube. She's Vegan and he has the same lactose requirements so they cover a lot of range of foods you might be able to eat or slightly modify. They've reviewed I think basically every restaurant and are fun to watch.

Starbucks is a good suggestion! Our room does have a kitchenette- microwave, fridge, and toaster. I've never used a service like Garden Grocer but I'm thinking this trip will change that!

It's a wild list I need to avoid right now. If I'd known when I booked I probably would have pushed it a few months but it's for my son's birthday and I want to make it work for him.

I have seen a few of the Princess and the Bear videos. I just checked out their YouTube page. I had NO idea they had so many videos! Now I know what I'll be watching tonight!

Okay, glad to hear you got good instructions and have a good plan in place. I've had way too many patients come to me that have been on it for like a year because no one told them it was temporary, now we are dealing with try to correct vitamin and mineral deficiencies, it's a mess.

Thank you! I should have explained that it's a short term diet. The trip just falls at an unfortunate time.
It's terrible that people end up with deficiencies because they aren't given the right info.
