My neighbor (who is currently on vacation) gave me a recipe for homemade salsa.

One of the ingredients is a sprig of cilantro. I have the cilantro, but what is a sprig of it?

Thx!

A little branch, twig, etc. with the leaves on it.;) I like more than a sprig but then, I like cilantro.

Yes, what Dawn said. Cilantro is my favorite. I even add it to my salads.

The recipe calls for 4 sprigs , but I didn't know what a sprig was.

Thx guys, I knew the wise almighty Dis'ers would know! :thumbsup2

Put in a little, say one sprig, taste & add more a little at a time until you come up with what you like.

Cilantro seems to be one of those things that people either love or loathe.
Personally we love it here but when having the in laws over I put it on the side 'coz we have so many that either detest it or simply don't like as much.

Actually, the recipe should've been written in teaspoons, tablespoons (cups) for the cilantro measurement. Sprigs some in all lengths & bushiness.

I put like a 100 sprigs in when I make a quart of salsa... pretty much a whole bunch.

All I know is I don't want it on or in my hamburgers or PB&J sandwiches! :sad2:

I like my food relatively plain... my wife calls it "boring." I call it knowing what I like. ::yes::

Well I made the salsa and put way too much jalapeno in it. I like hot stuff but I thought I was going to breathe fire. :rolleyes1

Plus I don't have the right kind of chopper. What kind of chopper do you guys use? I tried my blender on chop and this little black and decker thing but they pulverized it too much. it looked like slop. Fire breathing slop. :rotfl:

I dropped some on the floor and the dog licked it up before I could yell at her. The look on her face was so funny. She kept smacking her chops. I took her to get water and she was OK after that.

I can't do cilantro. I don't know how to explain it, but it tastes like a Christmas tree to me.:confused3

maybe add some more of the non-spicy stuff? especially tomatores... or you can make it creamy by adding plain yogurt.

oh.. and i chop with a knife :)

(I love cilantro... my dad thinks it tastes like dishwater. Not sure how anyone would know what dishwater tastes like!)

I simply snip up cilantro with a great pair of scissors (Fiskars) that live in the kitchen strictly for food use.
I do that with parsley, scallions. dill etc

In fact I do a lot of 'chopping'--poultry, meats-- with scissors, eazy peazy.

There is also the method of using 2 chef's knives held in one hand. That is an excellent way & very fast.
