What is Boston cream filled donuts, and what is Bavarian cream filled donuts?

Is there a difference in fillings? I thought the only diffrence is that Boston Cream has chocolate on top, and bavarian has powder.

this is funny, we just had this argument with our kids this morning......the difference between the two

Honestly, I think it's more of a regional thing. I'm pretty sure the filling is the same. But you will see some places call the donut with chocolate on the top "Boston" creme and the donut coated all over in powdered sugar "Bavarian" creme....

Now I know what I'm having for breakfast.... :)

Eggs :lmao:

Yep, I think the creams are the same. Not to be confused with that horrible sugarly Angel cream....yuck!

I LOVE boston/bavarian cream!

There is a difference.

The Boston Cream is really white in color

The Bavarian Cream is more of a cream in color.

Looking online ingredients:

Boston Cream Filling:
2 cups milk
1/4 cup granulated sugar
3 tablespoon cornstarch
1/4 teaspoon salt
2 large egg yolks
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Bavarian Cream Filling
5 large eggs
1/2 cup sugar
2 cups heavy cream
1 tablespoon unflavored gelatin
1 cup heavy cream
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 teaspoon almond

ok, if you send me a doz of each I will report on the difference in about 2 days.

Our Krispy Kreme has Bavarian Creme Chocolate Covered and Boston Creme Chocolate Covered.

I'll bring a dozen of each to the Memorial Day GG

Well, we can't just trust Krispy Kreme as the official arbiter of this dispute. Someone needs to bring a couple dozen from Dunkin as well, and if anyone is coming down from Buffalo or Canada, a couple dozen from Tim Horton's.

Man, I wish I was going to be there Memorial Day! Maybe Bob and I will have to sit up here in TN and run a parallel testing...just to make sure the results are reliable!

Is it not obvious? Boston Creme is made in Boston and Bavarian Creme is made in Bavaria.

I cannot believe you all did not know this. The name alone gives you the answer.:rolleyes1

This is what I have thought my whole life. Boston Cream is the white super sweet filling and Bavarian Cream is the yellowish filling you put in an eclair.
Frank says they are the same also.

That is interesting! Around here they use the same in both, and I'm pretty sure it's the creamy-yellowish looking stuff. But I have seen Boston Creme donuts at a bakery up north that had a whiter looking filling. So maybe it is regional, or maybe it's laziness (the donut maker doesn't want to bother with two fillings?)LOL (read, Dunkin' Donuts)

Can you believe we don't have a single bakery in my town (23 square miles, 25,000 residents and not one bakery) - no one counts the grocery store bakery do they? I don't.

I believe Dunkin Donuts does use the same filling for both, thus my earlier post
that the only diffrence is that Boston Cream has chocolate on top, and bavarian has powder.

Vickie, did you just get home from a Dunkin' run? :lmao:
