I am having a problem w/the cheapie hairspray I'm using (which I'm throwing away tonight). I spray my hair a lot b/c I don't want to get lice in school. They hate dirty hair, so I always spray the heck out of it. Well, now the crummy spray that I'm using has left build up on my hair and I don't know how to get that buildup out! I've tried dandruff shampoo but the residue is still there. Any suggestions on how to break it down and get it out?!

Mix together baking soda/water and saturate hair with it. Keeping soaking it on the hair and keep combing it until most of the build up combs out.

White vinegar works also. Do the same thing with the vinegar/water.

After all is done, wash/condition hair as usual.

Yeah, another suggestion for clairifying shampoo. I use cheepie hairspray, too, and I've found that only clear shampoo (not the creamy kind) gets my hair squeeky clean. I find Pantene's clairifying shampoo to be pretty good.

I also once read something in, I think Heloise, to use a tiny drop of laundry detergent on dingy hair to clean it up. I've never had the courage to do it, but thought I'd throw it out there!

Daxx, this is what I have used for years on little old ladies who do not wash their in between weekly appointments. It really works. It is probably the original clarifying shampoo! :) Vinegar also works and gives great shine to hair that is dark like yours. My grandmother said when they were young they rinse their dark hair in vinegar and the blondes in lemon juice and their hair would be clean shiny. I guess girls have always liked having pretty hair. :goodvibes

another vote for baking soda and water.... I used that mixture when I used to use tons of product on my hair. it works every time and does not damage/dry out your hair I use Nick Chavez volumizing hair spray now. It does not have lacquer as an ingredient.. great stuff.

Personally Neutrogena clarifying shampoo has always worked for me (and we're talking major hairspray for awhile there)

we use massive amounts of garnier fructis, ya know is the little green bottles? that works for getting all the goo out of hair.

Another vote for Suave Clarfying Shampoo.

Ds went through a big spiked hair face and texture cream (think Elmer's Glue, I swear it was almost the same thing) was the only thing to keep the spikes how he wanted. Suave worked really well at getting the gunk out.

As other's have said, Sauve is good. You can also check out the White Rain Full Body too. Basically you need a "cleating" shampoo.

The cheapest is just plain on baking soda and water.

Be sure to also clean your brushes, combs, whatever you use as they'll have build up on them as well.
