Have you exceeded the 50 pound per child weight limit for CitiMini Double?

I am considering renting a Citi Mini double stroller for our trip in October for our kids who will be 4 and 7 at the time. The 7 year old is capable of walking, but he has ASD, and I think it will be a good option for him to take a break from all the sensory input in the parks. He is right at 50 pounds now (size 6), and I think by October he will be in the 55 pound range.

The weight limit for a double is 50 pounds per seat. I imagine there is a bit of a fudge factor built in to that weight limit. Have you used it with a child that slightly exceeded the weight limit?

Our 4 year old is currently 30 pounds, so the total weight for the stroller will be well below the 100 pound limit.

Thanks for any input you can provide.

Into the double but I just took my 50 lb son with our citi mini single. He's right around the 50 pound mark, I mean within a pound or two probably.

The stroller held up fine, but it is MUCH harder to push. The one finger steering when empty does NOT work with a big kid in it. I was WORK to push the stroller.

That said it held up fine. It was a nice last hurrah for my citi mini!

Thanks for your input. I know it will be hard to push, but I would rather have it be harder on me than have DS get overwhelmed and not be able to enjoy the trip. Guess I need to hit the gym in the next few months and build up my arm muscles!

I think a child that age would be uncomfortable in the City Mini. We rented a City Elite double from Kingdom Strollers. They're made for bigger kids. The tradeoff is that the stroller is heavier and more bulky, but we thought it was worth the tradeoff.

I would not exceed the weight limit on someone else's stroller. There are some good SN strollers out there with higher weight limits.

Thanks for the input. I had been looking at Orlando Stroller Rental, and that wasn't even an offering on their site. DS1 is currently 47 inches tall, so he will almost surely be below the 50" height limit in October. The City Elite Double looks perfect for our needs!

I also like how the handlebars adjust with the City Elite Double. I tend to like a higher position than the typical standard position. I also like how the footrest is more defined.

I wish I had known about these 4 years ago. They look so much easier to use than the Sit & Stand we had.

Thanks again!

we have- my son was size 6 last year when we were there - he passed out in the city mini double every day... he's size 7 now and can still squeeze into it- not a great fit- but when he'
s pooped in the parks it is fine. We have a ride on board on the back, too.

Have you thought about renting a BOB dullie ?

That's what we normally rent for our boys (now 5 & 6)

Our 5 yr is very small for his age, our 6 yr old is average.

They are both very comfy in the BOB. Granted the 6 yr likes to walk a lot more than the 5 yr old. But when he's done, he's out like a light. And carrying him is like holding dead weight. He's actually happy to get in the stroller and ride.

We did the free citi mini from Apple over spring break. Huge difference. You can totally feel the weight way more than the BOB. When they were tired, they got vry cranky that their feet couldnt stay on the feet "shelf" It's only like 2 inches deep, where as the BOB has the "sling" that goes from the seats to the wheel.

I don't know much about the dullie. Did the kids have any trouble getting in and out of it? It looks like that might be hard. How is the storage? Something that is easier to push would be helpful, even though I think ds 1 will walk the majority of the time.

Are the doubles narrow enough to take in the lines? We are planning on asking for a GAC to allow him to use the stroller as a wheelchair.
