Grand Floridian shouldn’t allow non hotel guests

If a hotel offers free breakfast or evening kickbacks for its paying guests—which, let’s be honest, aren’t actually free but included in the cost of the stay—why should anyone not staying at the resort be allowed to walk in and take advantage of those perks? This is a key part of the value that paying guests receive. Is everyone entitled to the free food? If one of the reasons you chose this resort was for the “complimentary” meals and you weren’t able to get food or had to wait in a long line of non-paying guests who just wandered in, would you be okay with that? It doesn’t make much sense.
What does free food have to do with the trespassers that simply take the provided transportation (an amenity that they paid for in the cost of their park ticket or hotel stay if onsite) to come to look at a gingerbread house?

For many years I traveled with my mom who had her own wheelchair, ADA requires equal access, it does not require that you don't wait your turn like everyone else. For instance, at Splash Mountain (and I assume Tiana's Bayou Adventure) there were/are stairs within the queue. Those with mobility issues were/are loaded through the exit.

I’m fully aware of ADA laws, so I don’t need a lesson. The comment about ‘just walking’ was ignorant and dismissive. How would you feel if someone told your mom to ‘just walk’? Also, buses and monorails do provide priority boarding for people in wheelchairs.

Ah, so you are saying you feel ENTITLED to see the Christmas decorations at other resorts and you don’t want anyone to take that ENTITLEMENT away….
People who want to keep the lobbies open = entitled
People who want to keep the lobbies private = entitled

BTW, I don't feel ENTITLED to see the decorations. Under the current rules, non-hotel guests are welcome to do so. If Disney changes the rules, so be it. We lose that aspect of our WDW vacation. We won't sell off our contracts or anything. We will just adjust our plans accordingly.

Wanting to ‘wall off’ from the undesirables your own resort ‘amenities’ while in turn expecting unfettered access to other folks resort amenities = entitled

Yes I have waited for a 3rd or 4th bus at AKL at certain times of the day at certain times of the year for a certain magical park …whether the wait was for paying or non paying guests was inconsequential to me … believe it or not all of the ‘pay a premium’ folks at the GF don’t have a monopoly on the ‘unwashed’ infiltrators like they apparently think that they do

On the other hand this is why we rent a car. Different strokes, different folks, etc. Just because you tolerate doesn’t mean others are wrong not to 🤷‍♀️ Not to mention rack rates, discounts, and point charts having a pretty sizable gap the overwhelming majority of the time. My willingness to splurge on Grand Flo depends on some of this stuff and I don’t think anyone needs to apologize or have it implied they consider non GF guest ‘unwashed’ or any of the like.

4) at DL/DCA you can walk through VGC any time you want and I've never seen it be a problem there. In fact, I highly recommend doing that
Clearly you haven’t read the GCH thread here lol.

I do think having to go through security to get in and out from DTD has cut down on the loitering vs pre-pandemic?

We were just at GC the week before Thanksgiving and while the line to the Gingerbread house and treat shop were hilariously long, there were no material issues in getting through security to DCA or downtown Disney for hotel guests.

Looking at everything related to WDW makes my head spin. Honestly, if we were at GF with the pictures of monorail lines stretching back to Enchanted Rose then we would just spend money to take a Minnie Van to the park and light management up in the survey.

I considered Minnie. Lyft had surge pricing and cost to Epcot was $60

The lobby is literally an amenity, as are the grounds of the resort
According to Google AI, the lobby is not an amenity

AI Overview

No, a hotel lobby is not considered an amenity, but it can contain amenities:

  • Amenities
These are features or facilities that are useful or desirable to guests. They are usually more personalized and guest-centered than basic hotel facilities. Some examples of amenities include free Wi-Fi, free parking, and free breakfast.

  • Hotel lobby
This is a space where guests are welcomed and checked in, and can also be a transitional space for guests exploring the area. Hotel lobbies often have seating areas, concierge services, and sometimes amenities like bars, cafes, or lounges

Ok so I won’t apologize then … this is easy

I don’t care about the lobby as an ‘amenity’. I care about the functionality of the resort and the overall total resort experience potential.

DL resorts have things in place to thwart some of this. It may be harder for WDW to implement some of it, but that is not the same as saying there is no reason to implement when clearly DL found it worthwhile for similar enough reasons to what is happening over at WDW sometimes.

A chair is literally an amenity.

The Christmas tree and photographers in lobby are amenities. The gingerbread house is an amenity.

They do indeed require priority boarding, but once the designated wheelcair area is full, you must wait for another train. That IS a requirement for safety of disabled and ambulatory guests alike. It was you that brought up the disability aspect in response to someone saying if the monorail was full, just walk. No one here was even suggesting that it should apply to disabled guests.
