Grand Floridian Lobby Bar

All that being said what other resorts have a lounge right there in their lobby? Like on the same floor in the open?
I think this is the main reason why I find this so appealing. I like an occasional drink but the people I travel with don’t drink at all, so it’s a rare occasion that we would go to a resort lounge. Now I have an easy option to grab a drink from the bar and be on my way with my family.

I can see it working in that way. A drink to kick off vacation :) I do that in the airport lol

I might be odd person out but I super hope they just keep it to drinks... maybe that will make it not go the way of the other lounges that are overly busy.

Yeah. I wonder if it will just be drinks. I guess I’m imagining more of just a walk up type bar. So probably no food. But I think it will be super popular regardless, so probably always busy.

Honest question? Contemporary? Steakhouse is down a hallway not on main check in...
Don't forget the Outer Rim (if that's still the name) on the main 4th floor of the Contemporary

I am not so much against the idea of a bar. But I don't think putting a capacity of 8 seats will change the fact that people will still be lined up 20 deep after every social media influencer shares the "must have drink."
Enchanted Rose used to be quiet, Tambu Lounge used to be a nice place to grab a drink (before Ohana serving time). Now every other youtube video gives out the "secret" location to "insert" place where one must be seen, drink or special food item must be ordered etc etc. Every lounge on our last two trips that was on the Monorail Loop that isn't in a restaurant required a walk up/text/wait list. The birdcage Lounge will just be added to the "bar crawl" list.

Again, not against the idea necessarily, but the lobby will be impacted and it will be busier. Besides the whole concept reminds me a little bit of an airport bar. Kind of just floating in the middle of the lobby.

Tambu is one level up from check in area (Trader Sams down a hallway), Boardwalk has Bellvue but it too is down a hallway, Ale & Compass Lounge is in the lobby I guess but still it's "own" walled in area. Riviera has the coffee (sort of lounge) bar off the small lobby. Victoria Falls is a stairway down off the lobby in AKL. Territory Lounge too is tucked away down a hall up a few stairs.

Ok sorry off on tangent. lol.

Well, a lot of non-Disney hotels do. And I think Swan/Dolphin do. AKL has Victoria Falls right off the lobby. Gran Destino has a bar down the stairs, but it's still the lobby. This bar isn't going to be by the check-in area, it will be next to it. This is a large lobby and I think it will fit right in.

A lobby bar in a hotel has always been a thing. One may say a good one makes or breaks a hotel (again, not just Disney hotels, but everywhere).

lobby lobby lobby...now it just sounds weird. :D

If they let people sit down and theres only 8 seats, good luck.

When I used to have a drink, I would want to sit down and enjoy my drink and not have to pay and get out, theres other's waiting.

That's why i dont like Oga's Cantina, don't want something where I have to leave after a set amount of time.

I suppose the purpose will be to grab a quick drink to go and that's fine for those that want to, I just don't see the point in it personally.

Aside from the fact that I don't like anything about alcohol, the price these days would be enough for me to steer away, I'd rather buy an ornament or keepsake 😀

Now I am also not narcissistic enough to think they shouldn't build it because I don't like it, but I wish they would have chosen some live entertainment or something else to put there that families can enjoy personally 😀 Shoot put Mary Poppins and Bert there and I think people would really enjoy it.

That was the one I forgot! I knew there was one in there

I have not been to Swan/Dolphin or Gran Destino...good to know. We do love Victoria Falls...it feels a little off the lobby but still very accessible.

Lobby, Lobby, Lobby... a mantra indeed lol

I do not like the idea. Prefer a lobby to relax in. The good news is every building at GF has one so not a huge loss.
I however understand the idea when the piano player is there the lobby can get crowded so why not enjoy a drink.... hopefully they will have a server so I don't have leave the coach... Please bring a coaster so I do not leave a cup mark on the table.

I'm slightly disappointed this is happening while also retaining optimism that it could be really nice. I've never thought that the lobby needed a bar and I find this addition unnecessary. If I'm in the lobby and think "hmm, a drink sounds good" I just pop into the sundries shop and buy a beer out of the fridge. You also don't have to go far for either pool bar.

I would be okay with it if it was where the tea was held as that makes more sense to me since it has a larger space and I wouldn't worry so much about the impact to the holiday decor. But I know there are people who loved the tea area and want that back too.

I'm reserving judgment. I have only stayed at the GF once, but I have spent time there quite a bit. When visiting for the holidays I always checkout the decorations. I have spent time at the Enchanted Rose, think I might prefer a lobby bar. I have sat in the lobby chairs and listened to the piano player (and in the olden times, the orchestra!). I am the commoner who goes there to pretend I am something else! And I love a good G&T!
