Does anyone have a really good recipe for homemade cinnamon buns? Somewhere on these boards someone once posted that his wife made better cinnamon buns than Gaston's. I'd love to have that recipe for Christmas breakfast!

Wow! Both of these look delicious! I'm actually not that crazy about Gaston's either, @Meriweather, I like them gooier and yeastier, but everyone seems to love them so much.

Usually I just buy one of those microwavable monkey breads--those are surprisingly good for microwaved frozen sweet bread--but this year I'm feeling more ambitious!

I make bread dough in my bread machine - either a brioche or maybe sour cream bread - then roll it out, cover it with softened butter and cinnamon sugar or cinnamon & brown sugar or sometimes I get a cinnamon filling from King Arthur Flour.

I'll have to look for Rhodes brand. I want to try homemade for once, though. The Christmas break is one time of the year I have plenty of time to cook and bake, and I find that the visiting relatives get on my nerves less when I'm keeping myself busy in the kitchen!

My sister and I both make cinnamon rolls every year with our bread makers. Honestly its just the yeast rolls recipe with some additional sugar in it (I add some cinnamon too). Roll it out, spread butter all over, add cinnamon, sugar and pecan mixture. Roll up and cut. Put in the buttered pan and either freeze or allow to rise and then bake.

^^ I agree, any egg bread type roll recipe will work for making cinnamon buns. I like to use my stand mixer since it is much more powerful then a bread maker and does a better job of kneading. Kneading is a key step in bread making to develop the gluten. Most bread machines aren't powerful enough to do a good job of kneading. If you use any recipe on that 'allrecipes' site, be sure to read the reviews, since they have no test kitchen and many of the older recipes were posted by home cooks that others have found to have obvious errors in directions and/or ingredients. Many of their recipes also have exaggerated titles like 'best ever' or 'most amazing' and then you read the very average reviews.......LOL. There are many other recipe websites where you can also find good recipes.

I made the recipe from this video, they’re supposed to be like the cinnamon buns from the Main Street bakery. I never did get the chance to have the original but these were delicious!

^^ The instructions sound like you make up the roll recipe as listed and then instead of baking, you freeze the rolls.
Yes, freezing is an option if you want to make ahead. I have not done that, but it should work just fine. You would freeze after you add the filling, roll and cut. Thaw and then let rise as usual and bake.

The video in post #12 is actually a double recipe if you are making regular size rolls. 8C of flour and 2 pkg yeast will make a LOT of dough. To only make 6 rolls from that means they will be HUGE rolls. Typically, that much dough makes 24 regular size rolls.

Everyone loves the ones I make. I just use Allrecipe's Cinnamon Rolls 111 - so gooey and tender.
