Good place for bra fitting

I would like to find a place that can do a good job with bra fittings that won't want to sell me a $100 bra. I am about a 36DD and have not found a bra that I am happy with.

Nordstrom does fittings. The Wacoal brand around $80 are terrific. Look great, feel great and worth the price (in my opinion).

Although I haven't been fitted there, I've had several people tell me that Nordstrom's does a good job. I second PP's opinion on Wacoal brand. I heard about it from another board and found a couple of bras at Macy's that I had to have. I normally don't spend that much $$ on bras, but I think those were worth it. You can sometimes find them cheap at Ross, Marshall's etc....you just have to keep checking and be willing to spend some time looking through everything to find them. I've seen them there, just never the style I like in my size.

I've had a lot of luck with Lane Bryant, and often they have buy one, get one 1/2 off sales. Good luck!

Most specialty stores have bras in the $60-$70 range. I had to suck it up and spend the $$$ since I'm not an off the rack size. I was in shock at spending around $85 but now I know my size in several brands and can buy them at figleaves.com when they are on sale and clearance. That was two years ago and that bra is still like new. The pricey ones last a lot longer. I figure it's like purses- I can replace them more frequently, or spend more and have something I really like that holds up and it ends up to be equal or less cost per use, just more $ up front.

Try Frederick's of Hollywood....I went and the girl was so helpful. There bras are great and having matching undies as well. I was worried at first because I thought all of their stuff is trashy but it isn't. Really pretty great fit and good prices. You can get a bra and panties for about $30. I don't like victoria's Secret for bras. I just haven't had good luck with them.

Also try to go shopping at an off peak time. I went during the week at 2pm and had the whole store and girl to myself...She even came into the fitting room after I had the bra on to check the fit!

I was at JCPenney about a month ago and they had a sign saying that they do bra fitting. Not sure if it was just a special because they were having a big sale or if they do it all of the time.

My experience is that I can spend $80 on a Wacoal or Natori at Nordstrom and it is still doing its job five years later (I have twelve year old Wacoals - granted, they are definately "Saturday afternoon" bras at this point in time) - or I can spend $20-30 at Penny's or Kohl's and throw it away after a year.

I am actually at my wit's end for finding a bra for my 12 yo and I have decided to take her to an expensive specialty shop and fork out the money for a bra that she will probably outgrow in a year (if I'm lucky).

I did have her fitted at Nordstrom's and the woman there did a good job, but they just don't carry the right sizes, so I bought some bras that sort of, kind of fit. Out of all of them, DD only has one bra that she can actually comfortably wear. I wash it every single night. Sorry, I'm venting.

I will say that Nordsrom's has a nice selection of 36DDs and you should be fitted there. IME, paying more for a good bra is usually worth it.

Don't go to Sears. They occasionally advertise bra fittings, and frankly, that is not the service they provide--they are just flogging products.
I managed to get a decent bra fitting, and purchased comfortable bras at a local specialty shop that specializes in difficult to find sizes and mastectomy fittings. They have salesladies whose specialty is bra fittings, and a huge selection of all types of bras. The saleslady who helped me said that 70% of the women they see for the first time are wearing the wrong size bra.
Perhaps you could look for a specialty shop in your area, at least to get a proper fitting, and buy one or two items. Assuming your size doesn't change, you could then shop at other stores once you have your proper size.

Here in NJ we have a place called The Bra and Girdle Factory..... not sure if it is national. They do a great job, my DD had a medical difficult situation that caused few bras to fit comfortably. Bra and Girdle Factory helped her so much.

Here in KC, I finally bit the bullet and went to the specialty store. I paid $80 each for 4 different bras. Why? I had been stuffing myself into a 36 DD, when, in fact, I'm a 30G. It's amazing how much better I look and feel. And, how much better my back feels. Plus, like a pp mentioned, I still have all 4 after 2 years and they are going strong. The one I wear the most will need to be replaced soon, but the other 3 could easily last me another 2 years. That, to me, is more of a bargain than the $30 and $40 bras I was buying at VS and throwing away after 6 months to a year, that didn't even fit me anyway.

Have to second the Nordstrom bra fitting. I also like the specialty stores. I pay about $80 per bra. Eloni is a really good bra and they do have some pretty bras for people with bigger breasts.

I'm small chested and go braless as often as I can, but definitely cannot when wearing a single layer in public. I feel like I am in between cup sizes (A and B) since A's are too small and I have extra fabric in B's. Would I have the same luck at some of these places?

I an small chested more of an almost "B" and went to a fancy lingerie store called Dolce Bella for a bra fitting. The fitting lady was wonderful and I spent about $70 for a bra that still looks new 4 years later. The fit was so great, I felt like a new person! I am a super budget minded person, but I guess this is one area where you get what you pay for! I wish I had known sooner in life...

I did my bra fitting at Macy's when they have the person in my loal store. I am very happy with my Olga Christie bras but i believe they were discontinued so I only find them in clearence and rarely at Marshalls and TJMaxx.

I am planning on going to a specialty bra store bc I just can't find bras I like after the Olga ones were discontinued. I'd love to find bras in pretty styles and not just the bland black, white, beige that seems to dominate the DD and up crowd at the department stores.

My bras are not horrible but I know that I can get a better fit. I have been thinking of doing this for a long time but what pushed me to do this is that one of my girlfriends was fitted a few weeks ago and she ended up as a 36DD. If that is her size then in am more like a 32F. There is no way that we are the same size. I am much taller and thinner than her. When I told her that was my size she said that I better get fitted. She has been really happy with her new bras. She does not live near me or I would go where she went.

I think it will be better to get a few more expensive, well fitting bras than to ge a bunch of cheap ones that don't fit.

a specialist is worth the money. i worked at VS for two years and was considered a specialist in fitting when i left. this is the deal with finding a place, not everyone will have your size, at VS they suggested sister sizing, and i used to do that myself, 32D wearing a 34C because they were free. eventually i started getting backaches. nordstroms has a wonderful range of sizes as do many specialty shops, that is a good place to start because they won't try to squeeze you into the sizes they carry. lane bryant is good, but you have to be above a certain band.

to get an idea of your size at home this is what you can do. get a tape measure and measure under your bust at your ribcage where the band should sit (make sure it goes around in a circle, it should not dip or ride up in the back). add 5 inches, this will give you an idea of your band size. ex. a 36 would be 31-32 inches around your ribcage where the band sits. if you find you are measuring 27-28 you are most likely a 32, 29-30 a 34. bras stretch so if you are in between and go up it will just get too big too fast. in theory cup size they tell you to measure your bust and subtract. this does not always work which is where a fitting comes in, i could tell a cup size just by looking most of the time once i had an idea what the band was.

if you at least know your band size it will narrow down where you can go. you can check websites for stores like lane bryant, VS, and aerie to see what they carry. as on odd size my bras are split between VS, calvin klein (tjmaxx/marshalls), and nordstroms. you sometimes have to shop with who has your size. good luck!
