Help!:sad2: I have yellow Lab tumbleweeds in my house and they're taking over! I am in desperate need of a good broom/dust mop/vacuum to pick up dog hair. The broom and dust mop that I'm using is just pushing and spreading the hair around. Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance!
:thumbsup2

I feel your pain....we have 3 little doggies and find little tumbleweeds around the base of the couch and other furniture all day LOL I wish I had something light to push around everyday to get all the hair and dust off the floor. When I do get the Dyson out I can get 1/4 of a canister quickly LOL and I use it once or twice a week.

I second the Dyson. It works great. But, also try using the Furminator (dog brush) in addition. It helps get rid of a ton of that extra hair (great for cats too) to help reduce the amount of fur that may need to be picked up in the first place. Good Luck! :)

OP I feel your pain too,,we have 8 dogs all short hair but I am constantly vacuuming, I bought the Dirt Devil Purpose for Pets...DON'T waste your money if you see that cute little dog on the box :rotfl: it overheats and quits working then you have to wait unitl it "cools" down the little sponge across the filter is a PIA..it gets filthy fast & then you have to wash it & wait until it drys..I'll be watching your thread I hope someone can recommend something besides Dyson...there's no way I could afford one ...ever until then I spend my life sweepin the rugs with a corn broom & dust pan before I actually vacuum...I hate rugs! Unfortunately the house came with them

For deals, try www.woot.com - or www.amazon.com. Although I paid $400 for my full size Dyson Animal (which has more than made up for the cost) and the handheld one was less than $100. I check woot everyday to see what deals they have. I have never been able to find a better vaccum cleaner that was affordable. Believe me, before finally breaking down and buying the Dyson, I collected crappy vacuums. We just have a Roomba and the Dyson Animal in the house now and I haven't had the urge to buy any new cleaners which is a miracle!! :) There are just some things that you want to spend that extra money to buy and with pets, I think a vacuum is one of those things.

I can't afford a Dyson either.:sad2:

I have 5 dogs and a cat and it was so hard to keep the floors until I got the roomba pet series it works great and you don't have to do the vacuuming best thing I ever bought . I got it for $269 in aimtofind.com.

Thanks for the link & recommendations BUT with 8 dogs, a cat, & a horse I will just have to suck it up (pun intended:rotfl:) and keep doing things like this until something else comes along that I can afford. $400 goes a LONG way for food, feed, hay & vaccines..

I saw an infomercial for the Shark Navigator (I think that's right it was a sleepless night so not sure) but will have to investigate it when I have extra $$ they were comparing the Dyson to it & it seemed comparable but right now even that at I think $280. is out of our league

I also 2nd the Dyson Animal. We got our at Costco when they were offering an instant rebate. I want to say we paid $250. Well worth it!
Maybe you could watch craig's list.

I feel your pain! We have a long haired cat, a shepard/collie mix, and a lab/chow mix. Every day I sweep up enough "tumbleweeds" to cover an entire animal. Is there locks of love for dogs?

The only thing I've found that works is the Stanley broom with a dustpan that snaps onto the handle.

http://www.stanley-home-products.com/stanley/Slimline-Broom-Complete.html

It works better than anything else I've tried! And it's not spendy like the Dyson or Roomba.

I don't know about locks of love, but here they are collecting pet hair for use somehow with the oil spill. my parents have the kids collecting it, I thought they were pulling my leg but they've gone a few times to donate it. bizarre!

They are collecting it, but they have enough now. I checked the other day because I have an abundance of pet hair as well!

As for the OP, I would say any vacuum with an on board hose attachment would meet your needs. I have a Dyson, but for tumbleweeds I mostly use the hose anyway. I walk around and suck those babies up through the hose! Even less expensive vacuums can do that! And it works way better than a broom or mop.

That IS bizarre! But how could they possibly have enough? The oil is everywhere!!!! More likely they weren't approved to use it.

Honestly, the Stanley Slimline does a much better job than a regular vaccuum with a hose because the hair clings to the bristles. My vaccuum misses those stray hairs here and there. Maybe the Dyson gets them, but I won't know for sure until I hit the lottery! ;)

I don't know, but here is the site where I read that: http://www.matteroftrust.org/

I have the Dyson Animal as well, but our cheap upstairs vac does a good job with the tumbleweeds from our two yellow labs! You have to suck it up, brooms do not work. We also use a furminator, it helps with one dog but not the other, as much as she sheds she should be bald! They are on good food too so that's not the issue.

You are currently using a dust mop and broom, so I assume this is for tiles/hardwoods? I have the swiffer sweeper and my god it's heaven sent. I LOVE it and it's worth every penny!! ($40, but there are often coupons in sunday paper inserts)

I have 2 dogs and 2 cats. I use the cordless Eureka Quick Up. It's rechargable, and works better than anything. I have a roomba, and it's even better than that! Great for a quick sweep around the floor.....it gets everything! I think it's about 40.00.

We have the Dyson Animal and it is AWESOME!! By far the best vacuum we have ever had. I love the ball feature, it does a GREAT job cleaning all types of floors. It isn't a cheap vacuum though, we got ours on Kohls.com when there was a 30% off code and they were giving Kohls Cash, so it worked out to be a great deal, far better than we could have gotten ANYWHERE else!

Hi all! Thanks for all of the advice from everyone! I went to Petsmart yesterday and found something called the Dog Hair Eliminator Broom. It's sorta like a rubber broom. I like it so far. The dog hair doesn't fly around like when I use a regular broom. Now if I can get Nala to not shed as much, my life would be perfect!:lmao:
