Golden Age of Piracy Treasure Hunt – A Family Adventure?

Has anyone done the St. Thomas excursion "Golden Age of Piracy Treasure Hunt - A Family Adventure"?

We are 4 adults (DH and I plus DD22 and her boyfriend, also 22).

We're not big beach people, but enjoy a little time for photos, touch the water, etc. Definitely not excursions that focus mainly on beach time. DD and her BF absolutely love puzzles and escape rooms--even the kind that just come in a box.

I haven't seen many Disney people talking about this excursion. They have some Tripadvisor reviews but most are for other tours that they do, not this Disney specific one.

Our booking window opens next week. Would love to know if anyone has any feedback on this one!

Hello from the Treasure in St. Thomas. We just did this excursion.

We are escape room fans, and this followed the same general script: find a variety of clues to get pieces of a pirate map or open a lock box (for more clues). There was a word based version and a picture based version (for illiterate pirates, of course.)

They paired up families with similar aged kids (we had the two families with older teens, another group had 4 girls ages 6-8) tonget about 6-7 per group.

The first part of the challenge was in a Shipwreck/Piracy museum. We had 45 minutes. We solved it in 15, but then had the rest of the time to explore the museum which was really cool.

We then rode an open air bus about 20 minutes away to a beach resort for the second part of the challenge, which ended with literally digging up treasure on the beach. (We ended up combined with the group with kids so it felt way too prompted for us experienced adult puzzle solvers but on the bright side we let the 6-8 year old group get their hands dirty here!). We all got a little pouch of treasure to take back to the Treasure.

After that we had lunch (with rum available) and about 30 minutes of beach time for those who wanted it.

In sum: pretty low key family fun. Fun if you like escape rooms but very easy to solve. I’d highly recommend if you have kids in that 6-12 age range that like puzzles. Older teens were a bit bored but played along like good sports. Adults appreciated the museum aspect of it.

Thank you so much for the review!! This is super helpful. Sounds like a nice laidback way to see a bit of the island but not have to be at the beach all day.

I wonder if it will be weird that we are a group of all 4 adults (albeit 2 young adults who love escape rooms and puzzles as well).

Not weird at all. Other than those of us with kids there were 6 pairs of adults. You’d fit right in.

I should also add that the family with young kids had different transportation than the open air taxi/bus. I presume for safety reasons.
