How formal are these? I was also told the Colors were Blue & White and there is a prise for best Attire? This is daughter 1st and I need all the info so we can be best dressed and not over or under dressed.

I don't think polling here will help you - it can vary so much by community and from year to year.

I have 2 dd's who both did these. Some were semi-formal (tea-length party dress) and others were not. I'd ask around with some of the other GS moms in your dd's school. The GS leader or service unit leader should be able to help.

Check with your leader. Each dance has it's own theme and guideline. Ours is Father Daughter Sock Hop.
It's fifties all the way with poodle skirts and bobby socks. My DH and DD love this event. This will be their 4 th year.

Definitely this varies by location. Did they give you a flyer announcing it? That usually says the theme and attire. We had one that was "Surfin USA" which was lots of fun (beach attire). My cadettes plan to put on a semi-formal one for next valentine's day.

My DD and her dad have only been to one and it was suppose to be casual! I ran in to one of the mom's about a week before and she was buy a pretty party type dress. Then luckily the day before the dance I ran into another mom at the food store. Ordering FLOWERS!!!! I asked and she said all the girls were getting wrist corsages!(SP?) So what was told casual ended up being rather fancy! (of course I ordered flowers too!)

It varies, but our Father/Daughter dances have girls in sunday clothes and some in fancy dresses. Last year the theme was Cinderella Ball and my DD had to have a ball gown. I made her a lovely gown which she wore not only for the ball, but for Easter, to have her picture taken, for Christmas, and again for this year's dance. It is safe to say she feels like a princess in that dress and I was never so glad I made it.

Each year, DD's unit has a theme. Last year was 50's sock hop. About 80% dressed in poodle skirts, rolled up jeans, pony tails, etc. It was fun! This year is a luau. I will be buying a grass skirt with flower leus.

The father/daughter dances in our area are rather formal. Dad's typically wear a suit/tie. Many girls give their father's a boutonere as well as receive a wrist coursage from their dad's.

My DH and DD will not be going this year, as we are going to a wedding that night.

The problem is this is daughters and leader and all the other girls first year. Our Leader is not that familiar plus she doesn't have alot of money and will say wear anything since her DD will. I have the money to buy a nice dress. I don't have other moms that I come in contact with to ask about previous dances. Our dance is next Friday the 11th.
