Looking at the deluxe family oceanview and heard there’s issues with vibration on the aft and motion at the front.
I’m a light sleeper and get sea sick easily. This is our first cruise and I can’t decide which will be better.

Can’t address which end - but pick a cabin that is as close to midship (center) as you can get, and a lower deck, if you are prone to seasickness.

These ships are pretty big - not like a small boat bobbing in the ocean.

I had cabin 5520 (forward) and don’t remember motion in the cabin. Not to say there wasn’t rocking when walking around the ship.

After a cruise on the Wonder in the Aft section, we will not ever have a room in the back of any ship. Granted the Wonder is not the Fantasy, but anywhere closer to the engines will inherently be more prone to vibrations which we did not like. We just got off the fantasy and were in the forward section of mid-ship and did not feel any vibrations or motion. If I were choosing, I would pick forward hands down.

We've never found the aft section bad - the only time we noticed the vibration was when we were docking, especially Castaway Cay when it was fighting against winds. We choose the aft for the oversized verandahs and have stayed in 6192 and 7194 - we'll be in 7194 again this September. But if you feel you might worry about it too much and oversized verandahs aren't that big of a deal for you, then yes, choose forward. Here's me relaxing on my oversized verandah (stateroom 6192) - we loved it!

We’ve sailed many times on the fantasy. Both forward and aft. Aft has more vibration, not even close. Pick a forward cabin, close to midship.
I don’t have the option, it’s either aft or forward. None are remotely close to midship for this room category

My favorite area on the Fantasy is anywhere forward of the mid-ship elevators . We usually stay all the way forward in the corner rooms like 8504 which are huge. I don't like aft. Mid-ship is fine.

There are lots of confirmed aft vibration issues. It didn't bother us but I definitely saw what people mean. I'm less familiar with motion issues in the forward but if you're susceptible to motion sickness maybe that's worse than vibration? As others have said you can still try to pick rooms as close to mid ship as possible even if they aren't categorized as midship. Good luck deciding!

I personally won’t stay completely aft due to the vibration. I find it uncomfortable. We stayed in room 6130 and that is as far back as we will go.

We’ve sailed in 7004 and 9000. Both about as forward as you can get on the fantasy. Both were fine. We felt almost zero motion.

I’ve been in 5518, 5020, 7501, 8510 (so all forward) and not had any issues with motion at all.

If this is your first cruise, you don't know that you'll get seasick easily onboard the cruise. Cruise ships are totally unlike small boats in that regard. I've had to deal with motion sickness on land and small boats, but do not have a problem with it on cruise ships, which are huge and well stabilized. So that's one thing to keep in mind. Most cruisers do not get seasick.

The Fantasy in particular is notorious for having problems with severe vibrations in the aft (this comes and goes, likely related to sailing conditions). There is some kind of mechanical problem that has caused this. I haven't sailed the Fantasy in an aft stateroom, but I have felt those vibrations on her while dining at Palo and while at the Tube (which are both aft). I recommend avoiding sailing aft on the Fantasy.

We sailed the Fantasy this past June and the Wonder last year. On both cruises we had some rough seas and the worst for me was always when we were dining or visiting the aft of the ship with the vibration. Our cabin was forward (e.g. more forward than the forward elevators) on both ships and we had no problems with the motion in our cabins. I could feel the rocking of the ship when I laid down, but this actually helped me sleep great (and I usually sleep lousy on vacations). So on our next cruise we are going forward again!
