From the Disney blog:

"When renovation work finishes on the Space Mountain attraction at Walt Disney World Resort, it’ll be the same classic experience with a few new surprises. And now, Walt Disney Imagineering is offering an early peek at some of those surprises and the first images from inside the attraction.

As you know, with any Imagineering project, the story comes first. And the updated Space Mountain attraction at Walt Disney World Resort is no exception. With the update, the storyline is being extended – and you’ll be able to take part.
Passengers will be able to immerse themselves in unique game play as they prepare for blast off, becoming part of the space station adventure. During a recent walkthrough, we deflected asteroids to keep runways clear as part of the story.
The interactive experiences are based on duties you’d find on board a long-traveling space craft, according to Walt Disney Imagineering Senior Show Designer Alex Wright. Each game lasts about 90 seconds with a 90-second interval and the games can accommodate 86 players at one time.

As you move along on your journey, there are “insider” touches typical in projects created by Imagineers. For example, if you’re up on your Disney trivia, you’ll recognize a sign bearing the logo “H-NCH 1975″ as a tribute to late Imagineer and Disney legend John Hench. There are also other “Disneyphile” references hidden throughout the attraction.
Space Mountain celebrates the Golden Age of Rocket Travel – inspired by the jet age of the early 1960s. The attraction highlights excitement around the endless possibilities regarding space travel. It did back when it opened in 1975 and I think you’ll agree it still does."

Love the new queue line; pretty cool how it is going to be interactive.

Also, love the pic of the lady in the hardhat - I work in construction myself and wear a harthat all the time - it is nice to see other women in the field.

Thanks!

it worked

I guess I am the only one bummed by having to be entertained by video games everywhere we go.

Toy story ride is nothing more than a glorified video game
Nemos ride is basically watching a video. I wished they had done more with the seeing the fish in the real fish tank..like they did at the end, that was cute and clever

I like the animatronic stuff. I like stuff that uses my brain to imagine.

when you put computer stuff in like they have been doing, it stops having you talk with your friends, you stop interacting as much with people. you miss out on some of what life is about

from a cast member's family member who works for me.. SM should be having a soft opening this weekend if they get the OSHA certificate... :cheer2:

I will bet alot of people disagree but I totally feel as you do. Even though I won't go on the actual TOT ride anymore, I love to see everything in the beginning. I just want to reach out and touch everything. I think they frown upon that though. Same with HM and POTC. And EVERYTHING at WDW!!!!
I wished they had not changed the end of Space ship earth but I DID get a kick out of the new one. And I LOVE Soarin.

But overall I also hope they do not keep going in that direction of computer games.

Does it matter what the experience is as long as you're sharing it with friends and/or family? Isn't that what it's all about?

Personally, I don't care if it's a computer game or just neat stuff to look at (like in EE). I like having interesting lines. There's plenty enough time to talk to the people I'm with - if you'd rather talk, you don't have to play the games or look around. Or hey, sit it out all together. Standing in line at R'n'R in the outside queue - with nothing to do and nothing to look at - is torture for this ADD girl. And I wouldn't mind so much if there weren't so many bored, whiny kids (and adults) around. Not to mention rough-housing teens. And too many adults have an idea of "talk" as being picking at each other. I say "Yay" for distractions and entertainment.

If you think about it, if you're very lucky, you might spend 45 minutes to 1 hour TOTAL physically on rides during the day. And if you're persistant, maybe 1 1/2 to 2 hours watching shows or parades (if you're a planner). Meaning on a busy day you're spending another 6 to 12 hours standing (or walking) around. Is it REALLY so much to ask to be entertained during a little of that? I personally don't think so.

I don't understand. Will people be holding up the line moving by standing in front of a computer playing a game or are the games/interactive stuff after the ride? :confused3

It sounds a lot like the ride queue at Soarin', which I really love! When Soarin' first opened, it was just a queue, and boring, but now there are interactive video games - everyone is waving their arms, 'bouncing' balls or helping fly things - it's hard to explain, but very neat, and no, it doesn't hold up the line at all. I try to always FP Soarin', but last time I was at WDW, I actually regretted the FP, because I enjoyed the queue so much (no, I'm not crazy - I didn't actually give UP my FP ;)).

I'm looking forward to seeing the new, improved Space Mountain when I'm down the week between Christmas and New Years - sounds like a rope drop sprint!

KC:santa:
