If I am claustrophobic, will I be able to ride Finding Nemo submarines?
What is the sitting area like in the submarine?

Depending on the severity of your claustrophobia, I would probably recommend against it. The seats are narrow which means you are quite close to your neighbor, and the sub in general is small and they do close the door, giving the illusion that you're submerged.

The good news is that there is an alternative viewing area where you can enjoy the ride from a room rather than inside the submarine!

YAY!!! Thank you! :thumbsup2

No one is touching you, you do have your own seat/space/window. It is very well organized getting in and out, so I don't think it would be like being in a crowded elevator type thing.

If you think you'd feel odd being under water like that though, then avoid.

Provided your neighbors are not overweight, but just like on an airplane, some folks cross into your seat. I'm not a toothpick so I'm not judging but I've been seated next to plenty of folks that came into my space, so if that's an issue for OP, it's worth mentioning.

Thank you for posting because I was wondering the exact same thing ;) Looks like I'll be sitting this ride out :(

Remember there is an alternate viewing area where you can watch the ride effects without being in the sub!

Where is the alternative viewing area? I am not one to usually feel uncomfortable in small spaces but this ride just makes me feel uncomfortable :confused3

DH is not claustrophobic, he's just *big* (6'4") and he felt too confined and uncomfortable. I would skip the sub and do the viewing room.

There is a sign pointing to it near the line entrance, but just ask the CM near the ride for help.

The alternate ride experience is in a decent sized room. That said, it is no better than watching it on YouTube :( they tried hard to make it enjoyable, but it just isn't. I'd spend my time doing a different ride while the rest of your party rides Nemo. Can anyone else chime in on their opinion?

I am claustrophobic but I ride Nemo without issue, I do prefer to enter last and will actually let the CM know my preference, I've never had a problem, they tend to have my group stand aside and put us in the end of the section. I like the end because I only have my family sitting next to me and no one on the other side. I do get dripped on (water drips down from the hatch) but not that much of an issue for me. I also sit forward with my face in the porthole, they blow air in and it helps me not feel closed in. If you don't feel you can do it, just ask the CM at the line entrance to direct you to the viewing room, they will do so with pleasure.

My DM is claustrophobic so she has only done the alternate room. I enjoy the room-especially in the summer-it has air and the subs do not. Your whole group can go in the room at the same time. Sometimes you'll have to wait for the room, but I think we've only waited one time, about 10 minutes. The wait for the subs can be much longer.

No, it's not the same as being in the sub but it's still enjoyable. Wheelchairs and strollers can be accommodated. So if you're claustrophobic, have trouble going up and down spiral stairs, are more Pool sized than Tink sized, or have an aversion to sitting next to smelly people in the heat of the day, I heartily recommend the alternate viewing room! :goodvibes

We were in a sub where a lady freaked out about 4p seconds into the ride. HORRIBLE experience. Shrieking that sent all ( sounded like ) the kids under 10 crying. It was reverberating in that sub for the entire ride, and honestly for the rest of the day.
If you are even slightly claustrophobic, just go in the alternate viewing area. It's not worth it to try.

I am not generally claustrophobic, but you are packed pretty tightly into the ride. I have only done it once and that was enough.

This ride was an interesting one for us. It seemed innocent but our children (aged 3 and 6) hated it. They were scared of being locked in, of the dark, of the closeness of everyone.

If you have claustrophobia I would not ride.

I rode the submarines and LOVED them!!! Not cramped and being able to see out the portholes made it ok :thumbsup2

I'd suggest doing it if you don't have extreme claustrophobia. Otherwise, sit in your seat and try and poke your head as far forward into the window as you can. This will allow you to peer out into the water and give your eyes something to distract you and make you feel like you are in a large open space. Plus, there are little air vents at each window that keep the portholes from fogging up, try to breathe deeply and normally near the vent. You should be fine.

The viewing room is certainly not the same experience as actually travelling through the lagoon, FYI! :rolleyes1
