I've been filling and hiding plastic Easter eggs for my kids for years. It used to be easy (and cheap) to fill them with coins, candy, barrettes and tiny toys (Polly Pocket outfits, etc). My girls are teens now, but they still want to have an Easter egg hunt. I don't know what to fill them with now. My kids don't wear barrettes or play with little toys anymore. Candy still works, but coins don't mean much to them. I've put jewelry in the eggs at times, but I don't want to spend that much money, so I can only put jewelry in one or two eggs. Do you have any other ideas for inexpensive fillers that will interest teens?

This is what I put in my daughters and nieces eggs last year nail stickers, little nail polish, lip gloss, mini eye shadow. Any mini makeup works great for teens I think.

I hid eggs up until a couple of years ago so know exactly what you mean.

I don't know if it would fit but when I was at Bath & Body Works the other day with my daughter she bought a few small bottles of scented hand sanitizer. One may fit in a large egg. Look for the smallest bottle...maybe 3 oz...? They sell cute rubber holders for them also. I believe the sanitizers were 5 for $5 or 5 for $3, something like that.

Happy Easter!

How about pony tail holders, coupons for breaks from chores, the aforementioned BBW mini's, shea butter mini's from Bigelow.

I put money in ours. Usually a bunch of change. But one (for each kid) has a bigger bill in it. Last year I put a gold dollar in one.

Maybe instead of putting the prize inside the egg, you could put a number which corresponds to a larger prize that doesn't fit inside the egg. That way you're not limited to egg-sized items.

I have to admit I am a fan of a good egg hunt! Consider:

* dollar coins
* clues to a scavenger hunt to find their baskets
* if they are Disney fans, pins for trading
* $2 bill (s)
* fancy chocolate like Lindt or Godiva
* some fast food restaurants still have certificate books, like Wendys and sometimes McDonalds for frostys or ice cream

By the way, I saw a 4 pack set of giant eggs at Hobby Lobby (sizes were 12, 10, 8 and 6 inches -- $20 @40% off, so $12) so you could put bigger surprises in eggs like that!!

Clues where to find the goodies..or...I did a puzzle once (wrote on cardboard and cut myself)one piece per egg and it had where to look for the gift. DD still really likes a basket and doesn't get into the egg hunting anymore.

dollar bills, 1/2 dollars,

I've done a pretty hard puzzle and written on the back where the baskets are. :) I've also done very hard clues (jumbles, codes, etc.) that they have to solve to find the next egg and then their bigger gift. Have fun!

The teens at the church did a VERY cool egg hunt one year. The eggs were painted with glow in the dark paint and they did it at night. They used flash lights. One year they did florescent tape and used the flash light. One year the eggs all had money. Mostly ones with a few bigger bills thrown in. The other year the eggs all had a number that corresponded to a prize. The had mostly gift cards, plus some candy but you can do ANYTHING . They also had a prize for whom ever had the highest number when they added all the numbers in the eggs together. DS won that and it was a very nice itune card!

We hid one egg for each kid last year...we told them (they are 16 and 18) that there was cold, hard cash in it. Each egg had $20 in it. My husband hid them in a not-so-obvious place. We told them that it was on the first floor of the house but that it was not in plain sight. I also told them there were no hints and that since it was cash it didn't matter to us how long it took them to find their egg. :rotfl2:
It was a fun twist and they had fun looking for them. DS found his right away...we left for church because we have to be there early and my DH received a text/photo of him holding his egg. DD found it but not for a couple of months. DS gloated so much about his not being hid very well that I am thinking that DH will make it much more difficult to find this year. :goodvibes

I find these Easter Egg Hunt threads facinating. I am 38 but don't have children. Wondering when putting candy in eggs stopped being enough? I never got anything but candy in my eggs as a child, lol! :-)

My DD still likes to do EE hunts and she's almost 15. Of course, she gets candy, $20 bills and a couple $50 bills in her eggs. If I had that kind of EE hunt, I'd still want one, too. :laughing:

Wow! I was hoping to keep my prizes to $20 per kid!

just candy in eggs at our house...but you have to find your well-hidden:thumbsup2 basket before you can collect eggs. Basket is where we put itunes card, big chocolate bunny, etc.

Guess you haven't paid many children's dental bills then =0

It's not that candy isn't enough. It's more like candy is TOO much. I give some candy, but I'd rather limit the sugar. That's why I'm looking for some little treats that are inexpensive but healthier than candy.

Like a PP, we put change in the eggs. We have 6 lucky eggs that end up with a $5 bill in them, so each of our 3 can find 2 lucky eggs. You might also put nothing in the eggs and then have them trade in 10 eggs for a prize they like.
