Soooooo, the DH and I have been trying to determine if Expedition Everest loops, anyone know? I've been trying to find a video, or a map, or some information about the track design, but I keep coming up short.

Thanks! :upsidedow

No it most definitly does NOT have a loop.

It does go backwards, in the dark, quite fast, and a lot of people state that it feels like you are going upside down... I guess the g-forces are somewhat similar... but no, no loop.

That's what the DH says, that the G's are so strong, it has to be a loop. The second time I rode it, after the DH and another passenger said something about the loop,,, I tried to watch for it,, lol,, or rather "feel" for it, and it does kinda feel like a loop,,, right when you first go backwards, and into the darkness....

The speed, the dark and the fact that you're going backwards are all disorienting enough that many people SWEAR there's an inversion... but there isn't. The only coaster with an inversion at Disney World is Rock n Roller Coaster in the studios.

Also, on Everest, if you look outside of your car and down as you head into the dark you can see some small lights and part of the structure itself -- including the emergency stairs that run alongside the track. It ruins the illusion. But if you watch for that, you'll know for sure you didn't go into a loop.

No loop. Just lap bars. You would have to have chest restraints like Rock 'n Roller Coaster if it looped. You do head backwards at an angle for quite a distance before it finally stops and you head forward again.

The backwards helix does make it seem like you're going upside down!

Ugh... that is one tricky coaster ride! I like to scream in advance and that's hard for me to do on this coaster -- when we finally reached the top of the mountain -- I just knew there would be a huge drop but NO! I felt so silly, lol. :rotfl:

Rock N Roller Coaster in Florida and Screamin' California are the only ones that go upside down. The one way to know for sure is they both have harnesses whereas all the other rides only have lapbar.

after you see the layout, never considered it but the only lift portions are at the beginning of the ride - it's pretty fast and with the backward and later frontward drops, pretty cool that you never need to hit a lift again.

Also, that backwards loop part - can see why people think they're upside down. During that part I almost feel for a portion of it like I'm not moving at all.

Rut row... This sounds more intense than I had planned for... I was likening it to BTM... Which I can handle... Along with only one ride on Space Mountain, Aerosmith... Just not things like tea cups, Star Tours...

Hoping this doesn't make me queasy!!

I will agree and RNR and CS are the only Disney coasters in America that go upside down. But, don't assume that a coaster can't go upside down if it only has a lap bar.

For Example Scorpion at Busch Gardens Tampa, has a loop with only lap bars. Flight of Fear at Kings Island, Ohio has several http://www.rcdb.com/66.htm?p=12707 and only a lap bar. That's only a couple of several examples, but I will agree it's rather rare.

Yep, I always see this too, you can definitely see the track (or some of the track) if you look down and you will notice right away that you are only going backwards with no loops. I too can see why people think they are going upside down, those Gs really can get to you :goodvibes.

To the PP that is comparing it to BTMRR, EE is more intense than BTMRR but really fun. I would try it once and if you don't like it, then don't do it again. However, I have seen and talked to many people who were scared of it in line but when they got off of it, they were ready to go right back on again. It is one of the smoothest coasters you are going to encounter at Disney...along with RnRC :thumbsup2

The part where you go backwards always makes me queasy.

Wow...looks like fun! I am in for this but none that go upside down. I don't think DS is tall enough for the Rockin Roller Coaster anyways...he is just 48".:thumbsup2

I say this not to nitpick, but as an FYI -- that's not necessarily true. I have ridden several coasters that go upside down without over-the-shoulder restraints -- you can see in this photograph of Busch Gardens' Scorpion, but there are others like that. (If you go back a picture, there is a clearer picture of the train.) OTSRs are usually installed out of guest preference, to fit a wider range of guests, and to reduce insurance rates, not because the laws of physics require them. Took me forever to get my little brain around that, and to be honest, it's still a bit nervewracking to go upside down without that harness over my shoulders, lol...

It's not spinny, more like part BTMRR (the very beginning) meets SM & RnRC's love child, lol. The backwards part is somewhat intense -- heavy positive Gs, which are the type that push you down into the seat -- but the rest of it is not too bad. If you can handle BTMRR, SM, and RnRC you should be fine to give it a shot... and if you hate it you never have to ride it again. :)

Crazy question of my own... is a portion of the helix uphill? I feel like it is, which would explain the 'upside down' feeling many riders get.

ETA: Oh, dang -- I cross-posted with several posters and see that I've provided non-new information. Oops! Sorry!
