Educational letter for school excuse/taking the kids out of school

You guys are talking about things that really matter to you, but really don't matter to school administrators. Give a decent school administrator a way out, and they will take it. They want parents and students to be happy. They will "bend" the rules to make that happen, even if the letter is "absurd".

In the end, as a parent, that is all that matters - that you get to take your child with you on vacation without destroying their relationships with their teachers or getting in trouble with the administration.

I agree, but imho, "that" letter could brand you as "that" parent. Which isn't good for relationships with teachers and administration.

What makes you think it doesn't matter to them? In some states (mine being one) schools get their money per student attending school that day. If a kid is out on a family vacation..school gets no money for the kid and thus has less money (and it doesn't balance out in the end if they have high absentee rates).

Kid starts falling behind after a week out of school and who gets the finger pointed at them? The school/teacher not the parent that removed them for a week. Obviously it clearly varies from place to place but I don't think in general all administrators/schools say "eh..who cares". Nope..they are held accountable for the kid who isn't meeting the testing goals, attendance goals..etc so they do care at the very least from that perspective.

So you follow up the letter with a case of whatever the principal drinks. :thumbsup2

Thanks for all the info and feedback. I took the letters into the school this morning and got a response email from the guidance COUNSELOR and the principal and the vacation has been deemed as excused absences, USING MY VERSION OF THE LETTER.

SO all of you who got your panties all ruffled about my letter, rest easy. It worked out.

Thanks for all the suggestions and links.

29 more days!! I could squeal!!
