We are renting an ECV for my grandma from Walker and we are wondering how long the charge lasts for, and if anyone has been able to be out all day with your scooter?

The standard rental ECVs have two large batteries. If they are in good condition and at full charge they will be able to get about 25 miles of travel at maximum weight on the ECV. Most people will do eight to 12 miles in a day so there should be no problem riding around all day on one charge.

Some of the smaller travel scooters, which do not have the full-size batteries, can only do eight to ten miles on a charge.

I have driven my personal scooter with no problem all day, but it is my personal one and I make sure to charge the batteries appropriatly. This may not be true with rental ones.

You might say that everyone has their own experience...Mine is that losing a charge is not like a car running out of gas. I've forgotten to charge the batteries for a couple of nights and still managed to stay out all day. I have lost power from low batteries while using a scooter from Care Medical, or rented from WDW, or using my own so you never know what will happen. It's likely you'll be able to spend the entire day and part of the night cruising around with no trouble and you really have plenty of warning that a charge is needed...from the charge level shown on the indicator, the reduced amount of get up and go going up a hill, the acceleration that seems to be losing its fizz, and the gradual slowing down to the point where you swear you could get off and push the thing faster. Never fear, if you seem to be losing power there is usually a CM around who can help you get it to a nearby electrical outlet where you can get a quick charge, or to a 'phone where you can either notify the rental company to exchange it (especially if it's become a chronic problem having nothing to do with your having forgotten to charge it up the night before) or, get a Disney day rental as a temporary replacement. If Grandma is a lightweight she probably can get great mileage on a charge, especially if she remembers to shut the key off when not moving. Remember, losing power just means you go only slightly faster than the crowds so, if it happens, take the time to enjoy another in a series of sometimes quirky adventures that ECV users usually have at some point during their WDW vacation... Take a picture...This is Grandma in MK, out of gas again...sure glad it wasn't a flat tire...:worship:

It also helps as to how far you can go on a charge, as to what speed you have the scooter in. Which means the faster (rabbit speed) you have the scooter set at and run at, the greater drain on the battery.

From my experience there with the crowds, there really is no reason to be in any faster speed than say mid range ever. Most of the time I was in the slowest speed range and would only turn it up slightly to help it get on the bus ramps then turn it back down. You'll have to guage your speed by the crowds and your traveling partners anyhow.
