I went to a specialist this morning that I usually see every year. We discussed my medication and he asked if I needed a refill. I said I did not, as I really don't use it. He said that was fine and if I didn't use it then I really didn't need to come in every year. He said I could just call if any issues come up.

I just got my "after visit summary" and it says that I would continue with the meds and come back in a year. Would you call to straighten it out or just let it go?

ETA: I just got a call from pharmacy that meds are ready to be picked up. LOL

A call doesn't cost anything but time, so why not? "I thought Dr. name and I had discussed stopping the medicines and only calling for an appointment if necessary. Did I misunderstand?"

I would let it go - it states that maybe so your ins will pay for medication in case you need it again without having to go see the Dr
Until one doesn't show up for that next appointment and get charged a "no show" fee.

It didn’t state next appt was made if it had then yes you would need to correct it but you would have known they made an appt

A lot of my After Visit Summaries contain "boiler plate" statements that I suspect the Doctor's lawyers or their practice require them to include. My Dermatologists always include the same, word for word paragraph stating the Doctor talked to me "about the importance of using sunscreen of at least 30 spf". Been going to him for 4 years, he has NEVER talked to me about sunscreen.
If you are using a health portal like My Health Online operated by Epic, there is an option to message the Doctor. I would do that rather trying to reach him by phone.
You really do have to be your own health advocate, IF you can be. I had an ablation last year, knocked out for 6 hours, and foggy for several hours after. Days later, reading the notes from home in my chart, I discovered an hour or so after my procedure the Doctor ordered a blood pressure medicine I had taken in the past and caused drug induced lupus. He missed that in my chart. I had a follow up a week later in person with him, and I mentioned it. He was quite upset about that, and moved it from the Allergies portion of my chart, to the DO NOT GIVE portion so that never happens again.

I never made another appointment. I told the receptionist on my way out that the Dr. told me I did not need any further appointments. She said, "Okay, call us if you need us. Bye"

This is true, I find they copy and paste stuff from the previous visit and sometime forget to change the date or take something out that we talked about last visit. I do have an option to message the office through the portal so I will probably do that.

And I had health issues that triggered my referral to 8 specialists,, three biopsies and an ablation. I got tired of a specialists (and my primary care Doctor) questioning a diagnosis outside their specialty that was confirmed by a biopsy, and asking me to ask another specialist about a condition I have, and when I ask the "other" specialist about it, they say "you need to ask......" the Doctor that asked me to ask THEM about it. 5 of those Specialists have "discharged" me because there is nothing wrong.

It's probably a phrase in their documentation that automatically populates when they open a note and they should change it to reflect what was actually discussed. Lots of providers don't do this though, and it can get confusing. I wouldn't worry about it at all, honestly, but if you are, just write a little note in your calendar of what you actually discussed, so you can refer back if need be.

Half the stuff on the visit summary is made up or false imo. When I went for the follow up for a neck x-ray it had information about things that were not discussed or exams that were not performed.

This was going to be my suggestion also. I use the message feature in the portal often. It's quick, they respond, and, it's in writing for a record.

I've had something similar happen & I just contacted my pharmacy,
explained the Dr. conversation & they just restocked the Rx.
If you didn't make an appt. for next year (I'm assuming you didn't)
then I wouldn't worry about it.
