Does anyone think Space Mountain at Magic Kingdom will ever get updated like Disneyland?

Space Mountain is one of those things that just seems way better at Disneyland. It’s been a long time since Disneyland got track replacement… and that was a newer ride to begin with. I would love to see the MK ride get new track (side by side) that supports a soundtrack like DL. Might be cool to see it get a nicer loading bay like DL… or even something better then that. I’d also rather see a longer ride with a single track.

Just my opinion, but I can’t imagine the tracks in the ride will last forever.

It would be astronomically expensive (no pun intended) to rebuild the entire track. I won't say never, but as close to never as possible.

I also don't think things need to be the same in every park. The differences are A-OK with me.

Oh I certainly hope so! best thing ever was flying through Space mountain on a smooth track at DL complete with rock music! I'd like to see that change at Space Mtn at WDW

The wdw track is original from the 70s. One day it will have to be done, but that ride chews thru lots of ppl. There is a rumor that once tron opens space mtn will go down for multi year refurb to redo the track and add side by side cars doubling capacity. But that was a pre covid rumor.

[...and NO, I was not mixing business with pleasure!]

I would think that once Tron is open, Space Mountain will really pale in comparison, especially when it is next to it.
At that point, I would think they would need to update it. But only Disney knows for sure.

I find that most attractions are better at Disneyland than their Disney world counterparts. Space mountain at DW is in need of some updating. it doesn't have to be the same as DL but it needs an upgrade of some sort to be sure.

It's a coin toss for me.

IMO, Same or similar rides that are better at WDW (if I didn't list "similar" rides, I feel they are nearly identical):

Haunted Mansion
Splash Mountain
Tower of Terror
Dinosaur (over Indiana Jones)
Soarin'
Nemo
Astro Orbiter (because of better view being on top of the People Mover)

Same or similar rides that are better at Disneyland/DCA:

Big Thunder Mountain
Pirates of the Caribbean
Space Mountain, but the Hyperspace Mtn overlay is what pushes it over the top
It's a Small World
Radiator Springs Racers (over Test Track)
Goofy's Sky School (over Primeval Whirl, although it's now closed for good)

To be fair, I did not ride Grizzly River Run, as it was pretty cool when we went, and I'm not all about getting soaked on rides. In all my trips to WDW, I've ridden Kali River Rapids exactly once.

The Space Mountain episode of “Behind the Attraction” on Disney+ was pretty interesting. It explained why Disneyland’s version is double wide and WDW’s isn’t. DLR’s was refurbed for their 50th, but I guess probably WDW is getting Tron for their 50th instead (or, it would have been that way without covid messing up the timeline.) I hope they update SM at WDW someday. DLR’s is so much better. WDW’s is basically the Matterhorn in the dark (which was also backed up on that Space Mountain episode). I love and adore the Matterhorn, but that’s a totally different attraction and the joltiness doesn’t bug me as much on that one.

for the sake of discussion ive added my thoughts in the quoted section.

It's a coin toss for me.

IMO, Same or similar rides that are better at WDW (if I didn't list "similar" rides, I feel they are nearly identical):

Haunted Mansion: I like DL's more due to the elevator in the stretching room and the holiday overlay. but other than a little bit at the beginning, these are pretty similar.
Splash Mountain: WDW gets a slight edge with the side by side logs. but I prefer the animatronics and scenes at dl more. there are differences. Still give it to WDW by a hare (see what I did there?)
Tower of Terror: would have said WDW before the refurb at DL now they are really different rides, Mission breakout is more fun in my opinion.
Dinosaur (over Indiana Jones): really don't like Dinosaur much at all. too dark and too loud. Indiana jones is my fave hands down.
Soarin: I give this to DL based on the queue alone. I just prefer the athletics and location there. ride experience is pretty identical.
Nemo: subs at DL make this my preferred experience.
Astro Orbiter (because of better view being on top of the People Mover): wdw no dobut.

Same or similar rides that are better at Disneyland/DCA:

Big Thunder Mountain
Pirates of the Caribbean
Space Mountain, but the Hyperspace Mtn overlay is what pushes it over the top: that and the onboard sound system and the super smooth ride make it so much better for me. the one at WDW feels like a poor man's Matterhorn.
It's a Small World
Radiator Springs Racers (over Test Track)
Goofy's Sky School (over Primeval Whirl, although it's now closed for good): I agree with all of the above except this one. the rotating passenger section was always super fun. Sad it see it go.

To be fair, I did not ride Grizzly River Run, as it was pretty cool when we went, and I'm not all about getting soaked on rides. In all my trips to WDW, I've ridden Kali River Rapids exactly once. hmm... Grizzly river run is a great ride. I think I've only been on Kali once or twice. I remember how much shorter if felt compared to Grizzly so I have to go with DL on that one.

other notable rides:
Gadget's go coaster over barnstormer, it's just a smoother faster ride.
Mater's junkyard jamboree over alien saucers. seems to whip you around just a tad more making it more fun in my opinion.
I'd say dumbo at WDW is superior due to the double ride system and the queue.
the Railroad with the grand canyon and primeval world is better at DL.
Peter Pan's flight: the sound system and sound track at DL is just way superior in my opinion. though the queue at WDW is far better.

thanks for sharing your thoughts on this!

I actually still much prefer the WDW version to the Disneyland. But the DLP version is the best of all :)

Wow Dinosaur over Indy? I thought Indy was so much better.

Another one you should add is that Buzzlight Astro Blasters is way better at DL than at WDW.

yes, the Matterhorn had a new track put in a few years ago.

agreed. it doesn't need to be the same, it's better being different but it does need a smoother track. I actually like the queue. has more of a space port feel than the DL one, at least it does to me.

True! Same style track as WDW SM I think though - steel tubing or whatever. And both of them are still jolty.

Agree that they don't need to be exactly the same. Just smoother and a soundtrack would really improve it!

I like Dinosaur better simply because it gives the feeling of being "alone" during the ride...like you should be. When riding Indy, you can see what's going on everywhere else in the ride....including several other "buggies". It feels more like you're just on a ride in a warehouse, rather than being immersed.

JMO.

I totally get that.
