Spinoff of the Black Friday thread.

Are you working Veterans Day, or is it a Holiday off.....or is it even a holiday at your work, or is it your regular day off?

Not a holiday here, so not a day off, but in TV, during November Sweeps, even sick days are almost forbidden.

Not a Holiday here - well, Feds and State and Banks get it off.

Schools are out though, right?

Since it's a Sunday, yes. ;)

But no, our schools have never been out of school for Veteran's Day. Other than the post office being closed, it's a normal day here.

Holiday here, schools are closed, and I'm off. We will be attending a Vet's service/luncheon at our Am Legion. :goodvibes

This. DH is off because he works for the State. I work for a church and I "could" take it off, but then I'd have to work one of my scheduled "off" days to keep up with my work load. I am part time.

Kids are not out of school and have never been out for Veteran's Day.

I had it off but with being out of school for 2 weeks because of Sandy they are calling us in a day ahead of time. I got a call last night about it but they still haven't changed their website.

Since we were supposed to be out Thur to Mon for teacher's convention and veteran's day some people went away. I know my gf went on a cruise and probably got an early flight out. Now she will come home on Monday night to find out she missed a day of school,

it is 11/11 sunday but for state and federal holidays they observe it on monday the 12th this year.
our schools are out. they always are for veterans day.

We used to have it as a holiday, but management took it away and replaced it with an additional vacation day so it wouldn't have to pay holiday pay to first responders. I work for a local governmental entity.

We have Monday off here, yes. My kids have school, though.

Oddly enough, we don't get Columbus Day, but the kids were off school that day. We're a State institution, but in lieu of Columbus Day, we get Black Friday off.

Yes, I know. Veteran's Day is the 11th, regardless of when the federal gov wants a day off.

I started working for a local government thru a temp agency in May. The office is closed Monday. I am enjoying the government holidays, but being temp, I don't get paid. That is really going to hurt w/ Thanksgiving and Christmas. Hopefully, I will get the position permanantly after the 1st of the year.

Even tho I am missing the pay, I sure am enjoying the time off, especially when DH and the kids have to go to work and school. It's great to sleep in and have the house to myself!! I'm want to the house cleaned this weekend so I don't have to worry about that on Monday.

Yep, it is a paid holiday. We get 10 per year:

New Years
MLK
President's Day
Memorial Day
Independence Day
Labor Day
Columbus Day
Veteran's Day
Thanksgiving
Chistmas

We also get half of a paid holiday for NYE and Christmas Eve whether we work or not.

It's been a holiday at my office for about 5 years. I'm going to be the only one home on Monday. :)

I should note I am talking about Veteran's Day OBSERVERD.

Veteran's day is technically Sunday this year. I'm off that day by default. I voted about the Monday on which my company is observing Veteran's Day.
