We are booking a DLP package for June, and are wondering if we should book a standard room and add the breakfast buffet, or upgrade to a club level room to take advantage of the lounge breakfast.
Hoping to learn how the offerings differ, and get opinions on which you all would recommend.

Also, we want to make sure we are there to take advantage of every minute of the early entrance to parks for hotel guests. Would doing the hotel breakfast keep us from making the 8AM opening?

If we forgo breakfast at the hotel, are there good, quick breakfast options in the parks?

So grateful for ANY advice or opinion :)!

First off, there are 6 onsite hotels, all priced for different budget levels. You dont HAVE to stay at the Disneyland Hotel to get the EMH.

The breakfast buffets at Santa Fe, Newport Bay, Sequoia Lodge and Cheyenne are continetal sytle. This means that they have
selection of cold meats
selection of cheese
selection of fruit
selection of cereals
selection of yogurts
selection of pastries and mini croissants
bread for toasting
Tea, coffee, fruit juice

Each of the hotels price for breakfast is different, reflecting the general hotel room price.

Having stayed at Sequoia Lodge and Santa Fe when there was no extra charge for breakfast, I would not PAY now for the continental breakfast. The continental breakfast is not worth the €10 plus per person.

In February 2016 I stayed in a standard room at Disneyland Hotel. Their breakfast buffet has all the above PLUS
sausages
bacon
English baked beans
scrambled eggs
boiled eggs
pancakes and maple syrup

While yes it was nice to have the hot items, when I stayed the breakfast was included, not an extar charge. There is no way I would pay€30 approx per person for that breakfast

Now that the extra charge for breakfast has been introduced, I know that on my next visit in 2018, I will not be having breakfast in the hotel.

Starbucks opens at 8am, and I'm sure McDonalds and Earl of Sandwich will also open early now that Disney have introduced a charge for breakfast.

Also, we want to make sure we are there to take advantage of every minute of the early entrance to parks for hotel guests. Would doing the hotel breakfast keep us from making the 8AM opening?

It depends
breakfast starts at 7 am in Santa Fe, Cheyenne, Sequoia Lodge, Newport Bay and New York.
breakfast starts at 7.30 am in Disneyland Hotel

In February 2016 I was at breakfast at 7.30 am in Disneyland Hotel. I was done by 8.am and in the park by 8.10 am

If you had the 7 am breakfast, and did not dawdle, you could be done by 7.30 am, which gives you time to get the bus or walk to the entrance for 8 am.

It all depends of your taste obviously. My wife and I are travelling a lot, and breakfast is one of, it not *the* most important meal of the day when we are staying in a hotel. Needless to say, we are often disappointed when staying at DLP.

We would try to stay Castle Club or Empire State Club for the upgraded view and food offerings at breakfast. Most of the time, we take our time, sometimes we even stay in the room/lounge all day without going to the parks. Obviously some guests like visiting the world outside of the hotel but if you're not in a hurry, a Club Level room is worth it.

If you plan on visiting the parks early, have you considered taking a drink and a snack while in the park? While I would not pay a single euro cent for the terrible croissants they serve at hotel breakfasts (I believe I would want to be paid to eat one of them), on the other hand, food is actually good in the park (if you can, taste the lemon muffin, trust me it is one of the best thing in the kingdom).

Out of interest, what's the breakfast now like at the Golden Forest in SL? Any hot items?

On another note, one benefit of the DLH breakfast is that you COULD go intot he park for EMH, and go BACK to the DLH for a late breakfast aqt around 10am. If you think of it more like brunch, you then don't need to worry about lunch!

Golden Forest breakfast in S Lodge has included hot items and its hoped that this will still be the case when breakfast changes are made but its not yet been confirmed (only that breakfast will still be included in the price of the room in GF)

You can go back to DLH or any of the hotels for breakfast after EMH but you are less likely to do it the further away the hotel is.

If you just want breakfast in the park you can grab a croissant or other pastry at one of the places on Mainstreet - Cable Car Bake shop or Market House Deli for instance.
There is a character breakfast starting in Plaza Gardens in the park in March but its still unclear what the price of this is going to be and whether its open to anyone to book/just walk in or just for guests of disney hotels to book

I'm a fan of doing EMH first and heading back to the hotel for a more relaxed breakfast. Usually miss the rush this way too. DLH is perfect for this but we mostly do it from HNY which also has hot breakfast items.
